Wild Drop Weekend Finale To Powell River

Wenatchee, WA. – The Wenatchee Wild came out firing again Sunday night, but it was all Powell River on the scoreboard, as the Kings beat Wenatchee 6-0 in front of 2,162 at the Town Toyota Center.

Austin Kramer opened the scoring, assisted by Nick Halagian and Jeremy Leipsic at 1:19. The lead grew late in the period, as Carter Turnbull scored from Kyle Betts and Tristan Mullin at 17:17, giving Powell River a 2-0 lead after one.

The Kings scored once in the second. Turnbull scored from Rylan Ball at 3:08, giving the visitors a 3-0 lead through 40 minutes.

Powell River broke the game open with a three goal third. Turnbull scored a pair of unassisted goals, his third and fourth of the night, at 7:55 and 11:07. Then, Tristan Mullin scored a power play goal from Turnbull at 13:39 and the Kings would skate it out from there for the 6-0 win.

The Wild outshot Powell River 47-31. Chase Perry (Andover, MN) made 25 saves for Wenatchee, who went 0-for-6 on the power play and 3-of-4 on the penalty kill. Jeff Smith made 47 saves for the Kings. “Well, that’s frustrating.” said Wenatchee Wild Head Coach/General Manager Bliss Littler. “I thought we played awful well for the first 50 minutes, probably deserved a better fate. I definitely think our chances were better than theirs, they were able to get the puck behind our goaltender. When you start playing catch up hockey you start pressing and even though you’re keeping the puck in their end, you’re pressing and you take chances and you give up a couple of scoring opportunities, they go down to the other end and score. For the first 50 I was pretty proud of our effort. I thought we created many good chances to score. It’s a little snake bit right now with a few guys so, we’ll have to shake that off before we get on the road here.”

With the loss, the Wild slip to 6-3-1-0 on the season, while Powell River improves to 9-3-0-0. Wenatchee now hits the road for three-in-three nights, starting Thursday, October 15^th at Powell River, then Friday, October 16^th, the scene shifts to Alberni Valley, before ending up in Nanaimo on Saturday October 16^th. All games will be broadcast on Newsradio 560 KPQ. After a Wednesday, October 21^st game at Chilliwack, the Wild returns home to face Alberni Valley on Friday, October 23^rd, and Surrey Saturday and Sunday, October 24^th and 25^th.
