Chilliwack, British Columbia. – The Wenatchee Wild struggled
a bit early, but got better as the night wore on, skating to a 4-0 win over
the Chilliwack Chiefs at the Prospera Centre in Chilliwack, British Columbia.
The Wild scored once in the opening period, as Josh Bell sent a
pass out of the left wing corner past the goaltenders’ stick for a power play
goal, assisted by Joe Drabin and Dakota Raabe, giving Wenatchee a 1-0 lead
after one.
The Wild stretched the lead on a Hunter Alden second period goal
at the end of a 2-on-1, with Dan Nachbaur and Tyler Rockwell assisting for a
2-0 advantage through 40 minutes.
Wenatchee would light the lamp twice in the third. Bryan Yoon
finished off a nice back door play from the right side, assisted by Troy Conzo
and Mike Coyne, then August Von Ungern-Sternberg stuffed an unassisted goal into
an empty net, giving the Wild the 4-0 win.
Chilliwack outshot Wenatchee 35-31. Chase Perry was strong once
again in goal for the Wild, stopping all 35 shots he faced, for his second shutout
in as many nights.
Despite the early struggles, Wenatchee Wild Head Coach/General
Manager Bliss Littler was happy with his team’s performance. “I thought the first ten minutes, they really
took it to us.” said Littler. “Then I think we realized that we’re going to
have to skate and play with a little more courage. And once we did that, I was
pretty proud of how we played.” Littler continued, saying “I thought we made a
lot of plays. I think Chilliwack’s a good hockey club. They’re big and they’re
strong, I was pretty happy with how we played. Chase Perry was outstanding in
goal when he had to be. We’ll see how we respond tomorrow.”
The Wild will close out preseason play on Saturday night at Surrey
against the Eagles, in a 7:00pm PDT start. The regular season opening weekend
is next Friday and Saturday, September 11th and 12th, as Wenatchee travels to
Prince George to take on the Spruce Kings, with face off both nights set for
7:00pm PDT. The Wild play their home opener October 10th at the Town Toyota
Center against Coquitlam, beginning at 7:05pm PDT. Tickets are available at the
