The Tampa Bay Juniors punched their ticket to the USPHL finals yesterday, with a thrilling 2-0 win over the Atlanta Juniors Knights, winning the Elite South playoff series 2 games to 1..

After a scoreless first period in which each team showed their defensive prowess, Tampa Bay finally got on the board as Jared Goudreau blasted home a power play goal from the left circle. The unassisted goal, coming at 15:04, gave the Juniors a 1-0 lead through 40 minutes.

In the third, the two teams battled up and down the ice with good scoring chances both ways, but neither team was able to find the back of the net. Finally, Tampa Bay would strike on a 2-on-1 break, as Jared Goudreau, skating through the right circle, fed his brother Brandon on the left side. Brandon picked the puck off the goaltenders' pads and shoveled it home for the all-important insurance goal. Connor Smith also assisted, starting the play with an outlet pass from his own zone to Jared Goudreau at the far blue line. The goal, coming at 17:22, gave the Juniors the cushion they needed and they would hold on from there for the 2-0 win.

Tampa Bay outshot the Knights 35-30. Michael Krch was in command throughout, stopping all 30 shots he faced. Samuel Kany was strong as well, making 33 saves. The Juniors were 1-for-6 on the power play and 6-of-6 on the penalty kill, finishing the series 19-of-20 with a pair of short handed goals.

Tampa Bay will now take part in the USPHL's Elite playoff finals. The games, taking place on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, March 11th, 12th and 13th, will be played at the New England Sports Center in Marlborough, Massachusetts. Follow all the action on Fasthockey.com, Tampajr.com and Usphl.com.
