Tampa, FL. -- Season series: This is the first game of two games between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Vancouver Canucks. The Lightning won both games against the Canucks in 2013-14. Tampa Bay center Valtteri Filppula and Vancouver right wing Alexandre Burrows each had two goals and an assist; Burrows had his three points in one game, on March 17.

The Bruins took a 2-0 lead in the match, but the Beavers rallied and pushed the match to 5-sets. The OSU comeback fell short with UCLA taking the final set and the match 28-26, 25-14, 19-25, 15-25, 15-10.

San Francisco, CA. -- When Cody Ross came to the Giants more than halfway through the 2010 season, he had already struck out 100 times in 120 games. He hadn't posted an on-base percentage above .322 in three years. The Marlins, a fourth-place team, designated Ross for assignment. He hooked on with the Giants and became their National League Championship Series MVP, en route to a World Series title.

The first rules for intercollegiate football were drawn up by representatives from Rutgers, Yale, Columbia and Princeton Universities. 

1924 - Red Grange (Illinois) scored four touchdowns in the first 12 minutes of a game against Michigan. He scored a fifth touchdown, intercepted a pass and threw a touchdown-pass in the second half. 

1950 - Connie Mack announced that he was going to retire after 50 seasons as the manager of the Philadelphia Athletics. 

1956 - NFL commissioner Bert Bell disallowed the use of radio-equipped helmets by NFL quarterbacks. 

1967 - The American League granted permission for the A's to move to Oakland. Also, new franchises were awarded to Kansas City and Seattle.
