CRIMMITSCHAU, GERMANY — The U.S. Under-17 Select Team beat host country, Germany, 8-2, today and took second place in the 2014 Under-17 Five Nations Tournament. The U.S claimed a quick 2-0 lead in the first period and responded to Germany’s second period tally with four straight goals over the next five minutes of play.
Henry Crone (Cedar Hill, Texas) tallied four points, including a hat trick, and was named the U.S. Player of the Game.
“Today was a great team effort. We were solid in all three periods. We took an early lead and we were able to build on it,” said Cary Eades, head coach of the U.S. Under-17 Select Team. “The game of hockey is funny sometimes—yesterday it looked like their goal had plexiglass protecting it, and today we were able to bury eight goals on about the same amount of chances. Additionally, the coaching staff is really proud of the way we responded after yesterday’s tough defeat. We showed maturity in being able to put that behind us and earn the silver trophy today.”For a complete recap, click here.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Twenty-two players who participated at the 2014 USA Hockey Women's National Festival have been chosen for the 2014 U.S. Women's Under-22 Select Team that will compete in a three-game series against Canada Aug. 21-24 in Calgary, Alberta, at Canada Olympic Park.
The USA Hockey Women's National Festival took place Aug. 12-16 at the Lake Placid Olympic Center in Lake Placid, New York.
The roster features three players who helped the 2014 U.S. Women's Olympic Ice Hockey Team earn a silver medal at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia. They are Alex Carpenter (North Reading, Mass.), Michelle Picard (Taunton, Mass.) and Lee Stecklein(Roseville, Minn.).
The 22-player roster (seven defensemen, 13 forwards and two goaltenders) and staff listing is available here. The 22 players represent 12 different states. Minnesota and New York lead the pack with four representatives each, while Michigan and Massachusetts each have three. California, Colorado, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, Vermont, Washington and Wisconsin each have one representative. This year's roster will include two players who are 22-years old at the time of the series.

The roster features eight players who helped the 2014 U.S. Women's National Under-18 Team earn a silver medal at the International Ice Hockey Federation Under-18 Women's World Championship in Budapest, Hungary. They are Grace Bizal (Minnetonka, Minn.), Jincy Dunne(O'Fallon, Mo.), Rebecca Gilmore (Wayland, Mass.), Caitrin Lonergan (Roslindale, Mass.),Patricia Marshall (Thief River Falls, Minn.), Abby Roque (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.), Melissa Samoskevich (Sandy Hook, Conn.) and Sophie Skarzynski (Wilmette, Ill.).

PIESTANY, SLOVAKIA — Dennis Yan (Ann Arbor, Mich.) scored in the final minute of overtime to give the U.S. Under-18 Select Team a 5-4 victory over Sweden and claim third place in the 2014 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup. Goaltender Matthew Jurusik (La Grange, Ill.) made 42 saves in the U.S. net.
“After an emotional loss yesterday it was great for our guys to respond and beat a very good Swedish team to capture third place,” said Derek Plante, head coach of the U.S. Under-18 Select Team.

CRIMMITSCHAU, GERMANY — The U.S. Under-17 Select Team fell to undefeated Czech Republic, 2-0, today at the 2014 Under-17 Five Nations Tournament. Team USA had seven power plays and racked up 41 shots on goal, but it could not overcome the Czechs' second period marker. The U.S. yielded an empty-net goal with 17 seconds remaining.
U.S. goaltender Ryan Edquist (Lakeville, Minn.) gave a great performance, stopping 26 of 27 shots. His only goal against came during a power play. The team awarded Max Gerlach (Flower Mound, Texas) U.S. Player of the Game for his efforts at both ends of the ice.
“Two good teams battled their hearts out today, and in the end the Czechs were one goal better,” said Cary Eades, head coach of the U.S. Under-17 Select Team. “However, I was real proud of our effort from start to finish and in holding our composure under some difficult circumstances. We had a bunch of grade A’s (scoring chances), but couldn’t find a way to get one past goalie Adam Brizgala—he was a brick wall. Our goalie (Edquist) was also outstanding.”
