Wenatchee, WA. – The Wenatchee Wild played the Port Huron
Fighting Falcons tough all night long, skating their way to an impressive 4-1
win, in front of 3,202 fans at the Town Toyota Center.
Nicholas Rivera
(Pacific Palisades, California) scored first for Wenatchee, banging home a
bouncing puck at the right post. Omar
Mullan (Dearborn, Michigan) drew the lone assist at 12:11 of the opening
period, giving the Wild a 1-0 lead.
Wenatchee increased the lead in the second, as Joseph Kaszupski (Henderson, Nevada)
scored from the hash marks straight on. The goal, at 5:32, was assisted by Brendan Harris (Las Vegas, Nevada) and Andre Pison (Herlev, Denmark), giving
the Wild a 2-0 lead. Wenatchee scored again, this time as Matthew Nuttle (Marilla, New York) rolled in off the left wing on a
3-on-2 break and went top shelf, glove side for the goal. Mullan assisted at
12:15 and the Wild lead was up to 3-0.
Port Huron finally got on the board in the third on a goal
by Vito Aluia. Bryan Yim and Niko Coffman assisted at 8:05, cutting the
Wenatchee lead to 3-1. The Wild regained the three goal lead three minutes
later, on a goal in traffic by Kaszupski from the bottom of the right circle.
Harris assisted at 11:31, increasing the Wenatchee lead back to three, at 4-1,
which ended up being the final score. “I thought we played well tonight” said
Wenatchee Wild Head Coach Bliss Littler. “I thought three of our four lines
played very hard, Chase Perry
(Andover, Minnesota) made some big saves when he had to, but overall it was a
very good effort on our part. Looking forward to the challenge tomorrow of
collecting more points.”
The Wild outshot the Fighting Falcons 35-23 on the night. Perry
made 22 saves for Wenatchee; Alex Blankenburg made 31 stops for Port Huron. The
Wild went 0-for-2 on the power play and 3-of-3 on the penalty kill.
Wenatchee is now 29-22-6. The Fighting Falcons are 33-15-8.
More importantly, the Wild moves into sole possession of third place in the
Midwest Division, 2 points ahead of Coulee Region, with just three games left
to play for both teams.
The Wild hosts the Port Huron Fighting Falcons again
tomorrow night at 7:05pm PDT, then wrap up the regular season by hosting the
Aberdeen Wings on Friday and Saturday, March 28th and 29th.
