Flint, MI. – The Wenatchee Wild opened up a two-game set against the Michigan Warriors at Perani Arena in Flint, Michigan Friday night, riding a pair of goals in both the first and third periods, on their way to a 5-1 win.
Wenatchee grabbed the lead early on a power play goal by Parker Tuomie (Biemerhaven, Germany), who backhanded the puck home from just up the slot. Trey Bradley (Tampa, Florida) drew the lone assist at 1:28, putting the Wild on top, 1-0. Matthew Nuttle (Marilla, New York) made it 2-0 Wenatchee late in the period, as he backhanded home a pass in tight off the left wing from Chris Koukis (Brentwood, California) at 18:52.
The Wild struck for a shorthanded goal early in the second period, as Nick Rivera (Pacific Palisades, California) finished off a 2-on-1 break, following an intercept at center by David Powlowski (Rochester, New York). The goal, at 9:01, gave Wenatchee a 3-0 lead.
Shortly after killing off a 5-on-3 disadvantage, Troy Loggins (Huntington Beach, California) scored on a rebound. The goal, at 9:01 of the third period, was assisted by Tuomie and gave the Wild a 4-0 lead. Michigan would get on the board late in the period, as Josh Shellman scored on a deflection, assisted by Nick Mosher at 15:36, cutting the Wenatchee lead to 4-1. Then, at 17:38, the Wild got that goal back with a power play counter by Nuttle, with River Rymsha (Huntington Woods, Michigan) and Tanner Barnes (Burnsville, Minnesota) drawing the assists. Wenatchee would ride that goal through the rest of the contest, winning by the final of 5-1. “I thought we played well” said Wenatchee Wild Head Coach Bliss Littler. “They were very physical with us again; we did a good job at winning some races and getting pucks to the net.” Defensively, Littler said “I thought we did a good job at limiting them to first chances. We didn’t give up many second chances. It’s a credit to Chase (Perry). He pushed most pucks to the corner, there weren’t many rebound chances. It’s a big challenge for us tomorrow.”
The Wild outshot the Warriors 34-28 on the night. Chase Perry (Andover, Minnesota) made 27 saves for Wenatchee, Michigan’s Trevor Gorsuch had 29 stops. The Wild went 2-for-6 on the power play and 6-of-6 with a shorthanded goal on the penalty kill.
Wenatchee is now 10-10-2, the Warriors are 11-6-6.
