Sault Ste. Marie, MI. – A third period goal was the difference Friday night, as the Soo Eagles snuck past the Wenatchee Wild 5-4 at Pullar Stadium.

The Wild took the lead as David Powlowski (Rochester, New York) one-times a crossing pass at the right post. Nicklas Balboa (San Francisco, California) and Christian Salvato (LaVerne, California) drew the assists on the power play goal at 4:39, putting Wenatchee on top, 1-0. Trey Bradley (Tampa, Florida) would fire home another power play goal from the top of the left wing circle, assisted by River Rymsha (Huntington Woods, Michigan) and Sam Becker (Roseville, Minnesota) at 9:02, giving the Wild a 2-0 advantage. The Soo got one back on a tap-in by AJ Jarosz, assists going to Derek Lodermeier and Brad Pung at 15:41, cutting the Wild lead to 2-1. Bradley’s second goal, also on the power play at 17:20, assisted by Troy Loggins (Huntington Beach, California) and Salvato, reestablished the two-goal lead, at 3-1.

In the second period, the Eagles got back to within one, as Denver Pierce banged home a loose puck in the goalmouth on a 4-on-4. Kyle Loridon and Evan Mills assisted at 9:35, slicing the Wenatchee lead to 3-2. Mike Sabatini tied the game for the Soo at 14:24, with helpers from Evan Mills and Bruno Birzitis. Then, moments later, the Eagles took the lead on a goal by Ryan Urso. Sabatini and Jarosz assisted at 15:05, putting the Soo on top, 4-3. A rebound set up Wenatchee’s third power play goal of the night to tie the game back up in the later stages of the middle period. Loggins buried a shot from the mid-slot, assisted by Bradley and Salvato at 18:55, tying the game 4-4.

The Eagles regained the lead early in the third, as Chase Mattson scored from Pierce and Urso at 6:13, making it 5-4 Soo. The Wild kept pushing throughout the periodbut weren’t able to net the equalizer and the Eagles held on for the 5-4 win. “That’s frustrating” said Wenatchee Wild Head Coach Bliss Littler. “We’re doing enough things to score goals to win, too many soft plays. You work hard, you work hard, you work hard, then soft play and you get scored on. Junior hockey’s not a forgiving game. You make soft plays, you get beat. We made too many soft plays. We made enough good plays to win, but the soft plays hurt us in the second period.”

Wenatchee outshot the Soo 35-33. Chase Perry (Andover, Minnesota) made 28 saves; Colin Brennan made 31 saves for the Soo. The Wild was 3-for-8 on the power play and 4-of-4 on the penalty kill.

Wenatchee is now 5-6-0, the Eagles are 4-5-3.

Wenatchee remains on the road for one more game tomorrow at the Soo beginning at 4:00pm PDT. The Wild’s next home action is against the Kenai River Brown Bears. The games on Friday and Saturday, October 25th and 26th, start at 7:05pm PDT, with the game on Sunday, October 26th, starting at 5:05pm PDT.
