U.S. National Inline Team Downs Slovenia, 13-3,
at 2013 IIHF InLine World Championship
Noe Notches Five Points; 14 of 15 Players Register a Point
DRESDEN, Germany – Travis Noe (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) notched five points (4G, 1A) and 14 of 15 Team USA players registered a point as the United States defeated Slovenia, 13-3, here today in its opening game of the 2013 International Ice Hockey Federation InLine World Championship.
"We got off to a great start against Slovenia today," said Joe Cook, head coach of the U.S. National Inline Team. "Overall I was very satisfied with the way the team played today. We had all three lines contributing offensively and we look forward to tomorrow's game against Canada."
The U.S. scored early and often to seize momentum. Just 1:20 into the game, Rob Alexander (Mission Viejo, Calif.) scored after a cross-rink pass from Noe. Pat Cannone (Bayport, N.Y.), Junior Cadiz (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Noe each found the back of the net within the next 3:50 to give the U.S. a 4-0 lead. Slovenia scored at 10:33 to pull within three.
In the second period, Team USA reestablished its four-goal lead with a power-play goal from Noe at 6:08. Only 18 seconds later, Matt White (Whittier, Calif.) gave the U.S. a 6-1 advantage heading into halftime.
Slovenia scored first in the third period, netting a power-play tally at the 1:28 mark. Team USA responded quickly with a pair of goals from Noe at 1:52 and 2:24. C.J. Yoder (Colorado Springs, Colo.) tallied his first goal of the game at 9:30 and Cadiz notched his second at 10:04 to give the U.S. a 10-2 lead entering the final frame.
Slovenia struck first again in the final frame, cutting the deficit to 10-3 at 0:54. Team USA responded quickly again, with a Nielsson Arcibal (Carlsbad, Calif.) tally 17 seconds later. White added two more goals, including one shorthanded, to complete the hat trick and give the U.S. the 13-3 victory.
Jerry Kuhn III (Southgate, Mich.) made 20 stops for Team USA in the win, while Matevz Grabnar turned aside 14 shots and Peter Skrabelj had 12 saves for Slovenia.
Team USA will be back in action Monday (June 3) at noon EDT against Canada. A full schedule can be found below.
NOTES: Travis Noe was named Team USA's player of the game ... Goaltender Nick Maricic is an alumnus of USA Hockey's National Team Development Program (2006-08) and won the 2013 NCAA Men's Frozen Four as a member of Yale University ... Joe Cook (Mission Viejo, Calif.), a former U.S. National Inline Team member, is serving as head coach of the U.S. National Inline Team for the fourth time ... In the 16 year history of the IIHF InLine Hockey World Championship, the United States has won five gold medals (1996, 1997, 2004, 2006, 2010), four silver medals (1998, 2001, 2009, 2011) and three bronze medals (2000, 2003, 2005). Left handed dogs are more likely to be aggressive to strangers than those that are right-pawed. Australian researchers tested a group of dogs to see which paw they preferred to use for basic tasks and then analyzed their behavioral traits. They found while there was no link with levels of excitability or attention seeking, the animals which were 'left-pawed' were much more likely to act aggressively towards people they did not know.
