USA Hockey Names United Orchard Lake Hockey Association in Michigan as
First Model Association Program

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA Hockey announced today that Orchard Lake United Hockey Association (Mich.) has been named the first USA Hockey Model Association Program in the United States.

As part of the continued implementation of the American Development Model, USA Hockey targeted certain areas of the country for the 2012-13 season and took applications from associations seeking to participate in its Model Association Program.

With the designation, Orchard Lake has committed to follow the American Development Model in full, including adoption of guidelines associated with age-appropriate training at all levels of its association.

“We had multiple applicants in Michigan and couldn’t be more pleased to have Orchard Lake as our first model association,” said Ken Martel, director of USA Hockey’s American Development Model. “We’ve focused on implementation of the ADM at the eight-and-under level nationally the past two years, but felt it important to select a few associations that will take the ADM and put it into practice from 12U and younger. We expect to name several other model associations for the upcoming season in the near future.”

As a benefit of its model program designation, OLUHA will receive added support from USA Hockey to assist in enacting the ADM principles throughout its program, including equipment, signage, and educational materials. Further, OLUHA will receive on-going staff support from USA Hockey's national office, including in-depth coaches training that will commence in early September.

“We’re excited to be chosen as a national ADM model program,” said Brian Lenaghan, president of the Orchard Lake United. Hockey Association. “The face of hockey in our country is changing for the better and our board, coaching staff, parents and players, as a whole, are committed 100 percent to the ADM.”

NOTES: USA Hockey’s American Development was launched in January of 2009 to provide associations nationwide – for the first time ever -- a blueprint for optimal athlete development. The ADM is based on age-appropriate training and uses long-term athlete development principles as its foundation … The National Hockey League has endorsed the ADM since its inception … The ADM is for players of all skill levels and helps all participants reach their full potential.

San Francisco, CA.--
Count on Giants general manager Brian Sabean to do something, anything, in an attempt to improve his ballclub before Tuesday's Trade Deadline strikes at 1 p.m. PT.

Monday, Sabean watched the Giants extend their scoreless-innings streak to 22, reinforcing the need for offensive help. Then he saw San Francisco's bullpen, considered an asset through much of the season, crumble in an 8-7, 10-inning loss to the New York Mets.
