Brown and Palm Named Intern Coaches at USA Hockey's
National Team Development Program; Breen Named Brendan Burke Recipient for 2012-13

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Josh Brown (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and Trent Palm (Edina, Minn.) have been named intern coaches for USA Hockey's National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor, Mich., and Ryan Breen (North Falmouth, Mass.) has been tabbed as the third recipient of the prestigious Brendan Burke Internship it was announced today by USA Hockey.

ABOUT BROWN

Brown, who will serve as an intern coach with the NTDP's U.S. National Under-18 Team in 2012-13, was most recently at Robert Morris University, where he served as volunteer assistant coach and hockey operations coordinator for the men's NCAA Division I ice hockey program. Prior to his time with the Colonials, Brown spent four years (2007-11) as an assistant coach at Northern Arizona University, while also serving as head of recruiting for the Ice Jacks.

Also a former player at Northern Arizona, Brown helped the program to three American Collegiate Hockey Association national tournament appearances (2006-09). He was a two-year captain for NAU (2005-07) and earned ACHA Division III First Team All-West accolades in 2006-07.

Prior to attending NAU, Brown helped the Detroit Lightning win the Continental Elite Hockey League championship in 2002-03 was named a CEHL All-Star while skating for the Traverse City Enforcers during the 2003-04 season. Brown also spent time with the Springfield Jr. Blues and the Soo Indians of the North American Hockey League.

A native of Ann Arbor, Mich., Brown graduated from Northern Arizona in 2008 with a bachelor's degree in business administration.

ABOUT PALM

Palm, who will serve as an intern coach with the NTDP's U.S. National Under-17 Team in 2012-13, brings experience in scouting, strength and conditioning, on-ice instruction and coaching. He most recently served as the head Minnesota scout for the United States Hockey League's Sioux City Musketeers and also spent time with the Northern Edge/Educate Hockey and Roebucks Nationals AAA programs. Additionally, Palm was the strength and conditioning coach for Benilde St. Margaret's (Mich.) High School summer training program from 2005-11.

Palm played with the NTDP from 2004-06 as a defenseman and recorded 13 goals and 20 assists in 122 games. He helped Team USA win the gold medal at the 2006 International Ice Hockey Federation Men's World Under-18 Championship in Angelholm and Halmstad, Sweden.

Palm played college hockey at the University of Minnesota-Duluth from 2006-11 and helped the Bulldogs to the 2011 NCAA national title in his final campaign.

Palm went on to have a brief stint with the East Coast Hockey League's Chicago Express in the 2011-12 season.

A native of Edina, Minn., Palm earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from Minnesota Duluth in 2010 and went on to gain a master of education degree from UMD in 2012.

ABOUT BREEN

Breen has spent the past season as the director of hockey operations for the Providence College men's ice hockey team. He will begin his duties in September and be based at USA Hockey's National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Established in April 2010, the Brendan Burke Internship is awarded annually to a recent college graduate who is pursuing a career in hockey operations. The internship was founded in memory of the late Brendan Burke, who served as a student assistant for the Miami University men's ice hockey team and was the son of Brian Burke, general manager of the 2010 U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team and the National Hockey League's Toronto Maple Leafs. Brendan Burke passed away in an automobile accident on Feb. 5, 2010.

Breen's responsibilities will include interface with the NTDP, national teams, international events and player development camps and also include exposure to USA Hockey's acclaimed American Development Model and Coaching Education Program.

Breen, who graduated from Providence in 2012 with a master's degree in business administration, created the full-time, unpaid position of director of hockey operations at Providence in 2011. He was responsible for in-game and post-game analysis and coordinating team logistics and streamlining communications while working alongside the coaching staff.

He has also spent time working with the National Hockey League, the Boston Bruins and the Providence Bruins, coordinating hockey operations and promoting the game at a grassroots level.
