U.S. Inline National Team Defeats Germany, 5-4,
at 2012 IIHF InLine Hockey World Championship

Junior Cadiz Tallies Two Goals and an Assist in Victory
INGOLSTADT, Germany - Junior Cadiz (Los Angeles, Calif.) scored two goals and added an assist and goaltenderNicholas Maricic (Alta Loma, Calif.) made 41 saves as the U.S. Inline National Team defeated host-country Germany, 5-4, in its opening game of the 2012 International Ice Hockey Federation InLine Hockey World Championship at Saturn Arena.

"It was a great opening game against the home country in front of about 3,000 fans," said Joe Cook, head coach of the U.S. Inline National Team. "We expected emotions would be high playing in a hostile environment and our guys rose to the occasion."

Germany scored the lone goal of the first quarter with a tally at 6:40 before the U.S. rattled off a pair of goals in the second quarter. Travis Noe (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) tied the game at 3:33 with Cadiz collecting an assist. Following a faceoff win, Cadiz recorded his first goal of the game at 10:53 to give Team USA a 2-1 lead at halftime.

Germany knotted the game at 2-2 with a goal at 1:07 of the third quarter. Patrick Lee (Schaumberg, Ill.) reclaimed the lead for Team USA at 10:21 when he stormed down the right wing and fired a shot that beat Germany's goaltender Jochen Vollmer high to his glove side.

After Germany tied the game once again at 3:26 of the fourth quarterthe U.S. recorded back-to-back goals to secure the victory. Shawn Gawrys (St. Louis, Mo.) lit the lamp at 6:25 and Cadiz tallied the eventual game winner at 9:06. Germany recorded a power-play goal with 1:22 remaining, but Maricic held strong in net to help Team USA to the victory in its tournament opener.

The U.S. Inline National Team will face off against Slovenia on Saturday (June 2) at 12 p.m. ET in its second of three preliminary round games.
