U.S. National Under-17 Team Falls to Dubuque, 7-3, in Game Two
of 2012 United States Hockey League Clark Cup Playoffs

Team USA Eliminated from USHL Playoffs

DUBUQUE, Iowa - Hunter Miska (North Branch, Minn.) made 28 saves, but the U.S. Men's National Under-17 Team fell to the Dubuque Fighting Saints, 7-3, here tonight at the Mystique Ice Center in Game Two of the United States Hockey League Clark Cup Playoffs. Dubuque won the best-of-three series, 2-0.

"We dug ourselves in too big of a hole tonight," said Don Granato, head coach of the U.S. Men's National Under-17 Team. "We battled hard, but were unable to get back in it."

Dubuque got on the board first at 3:30 before Miles Koules (Los Angeles, Calif.) crashed the net and tied the game at 5:01. The Fighting Saints tallied back-to-back goals to take a 3-1 lead, but Tyler Motte (St. Clair, Mich.) brought the U.S. back within one goal with a shorthanded tally at 18:46.

Dubuque tallied the only goal of the second period, while shorthanded, to open a 4-2 lead heading into the final frame. Team USA surrendered two more goals before Tyler Kelleher (Longmeadow, Mass.) got on the board for the U.S. at 14:33 to make it 6-3. But Dubuque scored an empty-net goal with 25 seconds remaining to secure the series' victory.

NOTES: This is the second consecutive year that Team USA has qualified for a playoff position ... The U.S. went 0-for-2 on the power play, while Dubuque went 1-for-6 ... Have you been watching the Stanley Cup Playoffs? Have you noticed the seemingly growing lack of respect and regard for health/safety amongst players? Last night's hit by Phoenix's Raffi Torres on Chicago's Marian Hossa is another example. (Torres has already been suspended twice in his career for dirty play. Even though there was no penalty called on the play, if Torres doesn't receive at lease a three game suspension, then the Earth may well spin off it's axis.)

Toronto, ON. --
Evan Longoria is one of the best third basemen in the game. He has two Gold Glove Awards to show for it, and he is only 26.

But he was charged with three errors on Tuesday night to equal a Rays record, and they helped the Blue Jays to a 7-3 victory before 15,331 at Rogers Centre. Adam Lind, Jose Bautista and Brett Lawrie hit home runs for Toronto. Matt Joyce homered for Tampa Bay to lead off the seventh.

San Francisco, CA.--
If you remain concerned about Buster Posey's health, bear in mind that his mobility on his surgically repaired left leg Tuesday night helped the Giants claim a 4-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies.

Posey stole third base in the fifth inning and put himself in position to score the Giants' final run. It wasn't a tiebreaking, go-ahead or standup run, but in such a taut contest against one of the National League's elite teams, it made a difference.

"It turned out to be huge," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said of the run that resulted from Posey's larceny. "It takes a little pressure off the pitcher."
