Payne Named Manager of Development for USA Hockey Foundation


COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Brenna Payne has been named manager of development for the USA Hockey Foundation it was announced today. She will begin her duties in mid-March.

Payne will work with donor relations as well as plan and implement annual fundraising appeals and events.

She is currently the director of annual giving at Fountain Valley School (Colorado Springs, Colo.), where she has coordinated the fundraising efforts for the school. A graduate of Drexel University, Payne is a 15-year veteran of the USA Luge Team and is the current luge athlete representative on the U.S. Olympic Committee's Athlete Advisory Council.

The USA Hockey Foundation is a charitable and educational nonprofit organization that provides long-range financial support for USA Hockey and promotes the growth of hockey in the United States. The Foundation's primary goals are to enhance USA Hockey's mission and activities; to provide funding for education and training for high performance athletes; and to provide opportunities for greater participation throughout the country. Bob Allen, Walter Bush To Receive American Hockey Coaches Association Awards

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Walter Bush and the late Bob Allen will be honored by the American Hockey Coaches Association with two of the organization's major awards during the ACHA Convention in Naples, Fla., April 26-29.

Bush will receive the Women's Ice Hockey Founders Award for his contributions to the overall growth and development of the sport of women's ice hockey in the United States, while Allen will be honored posthumously with the Joe Burke Award, presented annually to the person who has given outstanding contribution, support and dedication to women's ice hockey.

Bush, currently the chairman of the board for USA Hockey, has served as a member of USA Hockey's Board of Directors since 1959 and was president of the organization from 1986-2003. He was also a member of the International Ice Hockey Federation Council for 23 years (1985-2008) and was the chairman of the IIHF Women's Ice Hockey Committee, where he was instrumental in organizing the first IIHF Women's World Championship and in getting women's ice hockey added to the Olympic program. An inductee into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in 1980 and the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2000, Bush was the first president of the National Hockey League's Minnesota North Stars from 1967-76.

Allen served as secretary and vice president of USA Hockey for more than 40 years and was honored as Director Emeritus when he retired in 2005. As a member of the USA Hockey Board of Directors, Allen was a staunch supporter of women's ice hockey and played a vital role in the sport's continued growth throughout his career. He served as chairman of the U.S. team that won the gold medal at the 1998 Olympic Winter Games in Nagano, Japan, the first year women's ice hockey was part of the Olympic program. Allen passed away in March 2007.

Barber and Carrick Score One Goal Each in Team USA Loss

PANELIA, Finland - Riley Barber (Livonia, Mich.) and Connor Carrick (Orland Park, Ill.) netted one goal each, but the U.S. National Under-18 Team fell to Sweden, 4-2, in 2012 Five Nations Tournament play here this evening at Panelia Arena. With the loss, Team USA drops to 1-0-0-1 (W-OTW-OTL-L).

"We had some great chances and just could not finish," said Danton Cole, head coach of the U.S. National Under-18 Team. "We must learn from this game, move on and come out strong in our next two contests of the tournament."

Two power-play tallies by Sweden put the U.S. down 2-0 at the end of the opening frame. Team USA outshot its opponent 12-11, but could not solve Swedish goaltender Oscar Dansk.

Both teams skated to a scoreless middle frame before netting two goals apiece in the third period. Sweden tallied a goal at 2:18 to take a 3-0 lead before Barber put the U.S. on the board at 7:39. Sweden regained the three-goal advantage at 11:06. Carrick brought Team USA back to within two scores when he found the back of the net at 19:23, but the U.S. ran out of time and fell to Sweden, 4-2.

Rutledge made 24 saves in the loss for Team USA, while Dansk turned aside 31 shots in the victory for Sweden.

The U.S. National Under-18 Team continues tournament play against Finland on Saturday (Feb. 11) at 10:30 a.m. EST. The game will be held at Pori Arena. A complete Team USA schedule is below.
