National Team Development Program Weekly Update

Under-18 Team Claims Fourth Straight Four Nations Title, Returns to USHL;
Under-17 Team Successful in First International Trip, Faces Waterloo Next Tuesday

U17 TEAM FACES WATERLOO NEXT TUESDAY: The U.S. National Under-17 Team takes a well deserved break after successfully defending the Under-17 Four Nations Tournament title overseas. Team USA next faces the Waterloo Black Hawks next Tuesday (Nov. 22) as it returns to United States Hockey League action. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET at the Ann Arbor (Mich.) Ice Cube.

U18 TEAM RETURNS TO USHL ACTION: The U.S. National Under-18 Team jumps right back into USHL action this weekend following its 2011 Under-18 Four Nations Tournament title win. The Green Bay Gamblers and Tri-City Storm visit the Ann Arbor (Mich.) Ice Cube on Friday (Nov. 18) and Saturday (Nov. 19), respectively. The puck drops at 7:00 p.m. ET both nights.

U18 TEAM CLAIMS FOUR NATIONS TITLE: The U.S. National Under-18 Team claimed the 2011 Under-18 Four Nations Tournament title on Sunday (Nov. 13) in Monthey, Switzerland after posting a perfect 3-0-0-0 (W-OTW-OTL-L) record in round-robin play. The Under-18 Team also posted a 6-0 win on Nov. 9 over Switzerland in exhibition play. The U.S. has captured the tournament title the past four years in a row (2008-11).

U17 TEAM SUCCESSFUL IN FIRST INTERNATIONAL TRIP: The U.S. National Under-17 Team came home successful after its first international trip of the season. Team USA captured the 2011 Under-17 Four Nations Tournament title in Balashikha, Russia, by posting a perfect 4-0-0-0 (W-OTW-OTL-L) mark, including a 3-0-0-0 record in round-robin play. The Under-17 Team also posted a 6-2 win over Russia in an exhibition contest (Nov. 9).

HITTING THE BOOKS: First quarter grades were recently released and both teams fared very well. The Under-18 Team had a 3.44 team GPA, while the Under-17 Team came in with a 3.50 GPA. Four players received a 4.00, 23 players were at 3.50 or higher and 37 players came in with a 3.00 or higher. Members of the National Team Development Program attend Ann Arbor Pioneer High School.

UNDER-18 TEAM NEWS/NOTES: The U.S. outscored its opposition 18-5 in four games at the 2011 Under-18 Four Nations Tournament ... Nicolas Kerdiles (Irvine, Calif.) tallied five goals in three games to lead all skaters in scoring. Kerdiles also registered an assist in a Nov. 9 exhibition game against Switzerland. His six points (5-1) in four games led all Team USA players ... Connor Carrick (Orland Park, Ill.) had three points (1-2), a tournament best amongst defensemen ... Forward Riley Barber (Livonia, Mich.) led all skaters with a plus-minus rating of plus-five in three games ... The goaltending duo of Jared Rutledge (Chicago, Ill.) and Collin Olson (Apple Valley, Minn.) were among the best in the tournament. Rutledge had a 2.00 goals-against-average and a 93.0 save percentage in the two games he started. Olson sported a 1.00 goals-against-average and a 96.0 save percentage in the one game he started ... The U.S. has captured the tournament title the past four years in a row (2008-11).

UNDER-17 TEAM NEWS/NOTES: The U.S. outscored its opponents 25-7 in four games at the 2011 Under-17 Four Nations Tournament ... Hunter Miska (North Branch, Minn.) stopped 44 of 45 shots and was named the tournament's best goaltender. Miska recorded two shutouts, including a 17 save performance in the title game against Russia (Nov. 13) ... Tyler Motte (St. Clair, Mich.) was named the tournament's best forward after tallying four goals in three games for Team USA ... J.T. Compher (Northbrook, Ill.) led all skaters in the tournament in points, scoring three goals and adding two assists in three games played. Compher also collected an assist in an exhibition game victory over Russia (Nov. 9) ... Tyler Kelleher (Longmeadow, Mass.) put up six points (4-2) in Russia, which includes a three point (2-1) showing in the exhibition tilt with the host country on Nov. 11 ... Will Butcher (Sun Prairie, Wis.) led all defenseman with four points (2-2) in three tournament games.

NTDP ALUMNI UPDATE: Toronto Maple Leafs forward Phil Kessel (Madison, Wis./2003-05) continues to lead the National Hockey League in both goals scored (13) and points accumulated (25) ... Detroit Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard (Ogdensburg, N.Y./2001-02) is tied for a league-best three shutouts so far this season. His most recent shutout was on Nov. 11 against Edmonton ... Vancouver Canucks forward David Booth (Washington, Mich./2001-02) tallied a goal and earned an assist in a 4-1 win over the New York Islanders on Nov. 13 ... The Chicago Blackhawks are enjoying a three-game win streak, thanks in part to forward Patrick Kane (Buffalo, N.Y./2004-06). Kane had two goals and two assists over the weekend ... Defensemen Matt Greene (Grand Ledge, Mich./2000-01) scored for Los Angeles in a Nov. 12 matchup against Minnesota. The Kings defeated the Wild, 5-2 ... St. Louis Blues defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk (New Rochelle, N.Y./2005-07) scored his second goal of the season versus Tampa Bay on Nov. 12, contributing to a 3-0 shutout over the Lightning ... Patrick O'Sullivan (Sterling Heights, Mich./2000-01) notched a shootout goal as Phoenix upended Toronto, 3-2, on Tuesday (Nov. 15).

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Longtime hockey broadcaster and ESPN anchor Steve Levy will serve as Master of Ceremonies for the 39th annual U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Dinner, USA Hockey announced today.

Levy will help officially recognize the Class of 2011, which includes Chris Chelios, Mike "Doc" Emrick, Ed Snider, Gary Suter and Keith Tkachuk.

An anchor on ESPN's SportsCenter since 1993, Levy provided play-by-play for the station's coverage of the NHL from 1995-2005 and its broadcasts of the NCAA Division I Men's Frozen Four semifinals and finals in 1998 and 1999. His hockey broadcasting background also includes having produced and and hosted a nationally syndicated show on NHL Radio Network (1988-89) and calling college hockey games for his alma mater, State University of New York at Oswego.

The 39th annual U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Dinner will take place Dec. 12 in Chicago at the Renaissance Chicago Downtown Hotel. A new poll shows consumption of alcohol hit a 25-year high in 2010, when 67% of Americans reported drinking alcoholic beverages. The economy may be a factor in the increase, says Jon Taffer, a bar consultant for almost 30 years. The bad economy doesn't drive people to drink, but it gives them more time to do it.
