Today would have been the 14th birthday of my beloved Miniature Schnauzer, Meggie May. Without her, I would have never met my wife and there'd be no Jimmy. She was then, and always will be, an important part of my life. Happy Birthday to my "Sweet Sweetie," and have fun up there at the Rainbow Bridge. I love you Meggie May!!!!

Potter to Be Inducted into Edina Athletic Hall of Fame
Four-Time Olympian One of Eight to Be Named to the Class of 2011

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Jenny Potter (Edina, Minn.) will be one of eight individuals enshrined into the Edina Athletic Hall of Fame on Thursday (Sept. 29) at the Edina Country Club.

"There are so many great student-athletes that have gone through Edina," said Potter. "It is an honor and humbling experience to be inducted into the Edina Hall of Fame with all the other great inductees."

A 1997 graduate of Edina High School, Potter was one of the first girls to play tackle football in Edina in fifth grade. She later played for the boys high school hockey program at EHS.

Potter played on the women's ice hockey team for three years at the University of Minnesota Duluth (1999-2004) and one year at the University of Minnesota (1998-99), earning All-America honors each season. She was also a three-time finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award, which is presented annually to the top player in NCAA Division I women's ice hockey.

She is one of just two U.S. women's ice hockey players to have competed in four Olympic Winter Games, with a gold medal (1998), two silver medals (2002, 2010) and a bronze medal (2006) to her credit.

Potter, at age 32, is in her 15th season as a member of the U.S. Women's National Team program, and is in her fifth season with the Minnesota Whitecaps of the Western Women's Hockey League.

NOTE: The other seven members elected to the Hall of Fame Class of 2011 are Leo Cabalka (Coach), Doug Hastins (1969), Karl Mecklenburg (1978), Phil Olson (1975), Dan Plante (1990), Mick Stenson (1966) and Sara VanderTop (1995).

ST PETERSBURG, Fl. -- One swing produced three runs. Another produced three outs. Both played prominent roles in the Rays' 5-3 win over the Yankees on Tuesday night at Tropicana Field to keep their postseason hopes alive.

With the victory, Tampa Bay moved to 90-71, earning the right to play for the American League Wild Card spot on the final day of the regular season. Boston (90-71) hung on to claim an 8-7 win over Baltimore on Tuesday night, which means if one club wins and one club loses on Wednesday, the loser's season is over. If both the Rays and Sox have the same result, there will be a one-game playoff at Tropicana Field on Thursday at 4:07 p.m. ET.

SAN FRANCISCO, Ca. -- While the Giants will end the season Wednesday afternoon with just one player having enough at-bats to qualify for the batting title, the majority of their rotation has been the model of consistency.

Even after their World Series run and subsequently shortened offseason, Matt Cain threw 221 2/3 innings, Tim Lincecum tossed 217 and Ryan Vogelsong unexpectedly emerged to average more than six innings per start -- and likely would have racked up 200-plus had he begun the year in the rotation.

The Giants added Madison Bumgarner to the 200-innings club Tuesday night at AT&T Park as he allowed two hits over seven frames in his final start to lead the Giants past the Rockies, 7-0, in the penultimate game of San Francisco's title defense before a sold-out crowd of 42,370..
