U.S. National Sled Hockey Teams to Hold Camp This Weekend
First Camp of the 2011-12 Season to Take Place in Indian Trail, N.C.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The 2011-12 U.S. National Sled Hockey Team and U.S. National Developmental Sled Hockey Team will conduct their first training camp of the season beginning Thursday (Sept. 15) at the Extreme Ice Center in Indian Trail, N.C. The camp, which runs through Saturday (Sept. 17), marks the first time the teams will practice following the announcement of the squads in August.

"I'm excited to get out on the ice and get to work," said Jeff Sauer, who was named head coach of the U.S. National Sled Hockey Team in July. "Training and scrimmaging with the U.S. National Developmental Sled Hockey Team will force both teams to bring their best early."

The camp is the first of two joint camps for both squads, though each team will also take part in separate training camps in Indian Trail during the season. The U.S. National Sled Hockey Team will take part in its first tournament of the season Nov. 27-Dec. 2 in Calgary, Alta., while the U.S. National Developmental Sled Hockey Team will face Canada in a series of exhibition games Nov. 2-6 in Indian Trail.

BALTIMORE, Md. -- Rays relief pitcher J.P. Howell took a quick look when Matt Wieters sent his 1-1 changeup flying towards the left-field seats in the bottom of the eighth, realized the ball wasn't coming back and kneeled on the mound, while Wieters rounded the bases and the fans at Camden Yards roared.

The frustration kept Howell kneeling for several seconds. Wieters snapped a tie with his two-run blast and gave the Orioles a 4-2 victory over the Rays on Tuesday night in a game that slipped away from Tampa Bay, something that's quite frustrating in a pennant race.

SAN FRANCISCO, Ca. -- Maybe the season has lasted a little too long for the Giants. But the duration suits Mark DeRosa.

Finding a way to cope with his injured left wrist, DeRosa has thrived in his sporadic appearances since leaving the disabled list in early August. His latest deed was Tuesday night's two-out, tiebreaking single in the 12th inning that lifted the Giants to their third consecutive victory, a 3-2 decision over the San Diego Padres.
