ST. PETERSBURG, Fl. -- It seemed only fitting that the Rays would celebrate the 1,000th win in franchise history in walk-off fashion.

The cowbells were ringing loud and proud at Tropicana Field on Wednesday as Desmond Jennings was mobbed at home plate after the rookie launched a first-pitch fastball from Rangers reliever Mark Lowe over the left-field wall in the bottom of the 10th inning to propel Tampa Bay to a 5-4 victory over Texas.

"Beautiful," Rays manager Joe Maddon said. "That's a nice milestone, and many more thousands to come."

SAN DIEGO, Ca. -- Brett Pill likely will confront Clayton Kershaw, the Los Angeles Dodgers' Cy Young Award candidate, when the Giants resume activity Friday at AT&T Park. Oh, and Tim Lincecum is scheduled to pitch for San Francisco.

Otherwise, the evening could be mostly devoid of drama. With Wednesday's 3-1 loss to the San Diego Padres, the Giants became less capable of relying on the National League West race to generate excitement.

San Francisco fell seven games behind first-place Arizona in the National League West after the D-backs beat Colorado on Wednesday night.
