Amazon launched 4 new models in its Kindle lineup Wednesday. There is the Kindle, a keyboard-less replacement for its low end model. Then there is the Kindle touch, an e-ink model with a touch screen, which also comes in a 3G flavor. And there is also the Kindle fire, a tablet-style version of the e-reader. Prices will vary depending on whether or not you're OK with Amazon showing screensaver ads.

The recession continues to inspire people to do stupid stuff to avoid paying money. This week's example: the teen who got stuck in a Coke machine after he tried to get a free can of soda. The teen thought if he slid his hand up the machine the right way he might get a free soda, but he was wrong. The rescue process involved two fire trucks an an ambulance.

The Onion, a satirical news website and newspaper, didn't get many laughs on Thursday when it tweeted that there'd been a shooting at the U.S. Capitol. Twitter users immediately responded by asking whether this was a joke or if the site had been hacked. The Onion office in New York confirmed that the tweet was not a hack, saying: "This is satire. That's how it works."

ST PETERSBURG, Fl. -- The Rays reached the playoffs for the third time in four years with a great run down the stretch to overtake the slumping Red Sox.

If a team understands that records don't mean anything, it's this year's Tampa Bay squad. Last season, the Rays entered the playoffs with the best record in the American League, but they got bounced in the American League Division Series by the Rangers -- the same squad they'll face in a best-of-five showdown starting Friday afternoon.

1916 - The Boston Braves stopped the New York Giant's 26-game winning streak. It was the longest winning streak in major league history.

1927 - George Herman "Babe" Ruth hit his 60th homerun of the season. He broke his own record with the homerun. The record stood until 1961 when Roger Maris broke the record.

1934 - Dizzy Dean won his 30th game of the season in a 9-0 win over the Cincinnati Reds.

1947 - The World Series was televised for the first time. The sponsors only paid $65,000 for the entire series between the Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Yankees.
