Fohr Named Assistant Coach at National Team Development Program

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Nick Fohr has been named assistant coach at USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor, Mich., it was announced today. Fohr will help guide the U.S. National Under-17 Team in the 2011-12 season.

“Nick is highly regarded and will be a terrific addition to our coaching staff,” said Scott Monaghan, senior director of operations at the NTDP. "He brings the energy, commitment and experience needed to help our players reach their full potential."

Fohr most recently completed his second stint at the University of Nebraska at Omaha as director of hockey operations. He previously served in the same position from 2004-07 before working behind the bench as assistant coach for the Mavericks (2007-2010). Fohr also spent time at UNO as an undergraduate assistant coach in 2002-03.

Prior to his time with the Mavericks, Fohr was an undergraduate assistant coach at Miami University.

"Very few people get the opportunity to represent their country on such a large stage," said Fohr. "I'm extremely excited and look forward to getting started right away."

Fohr was a four-year letterwinner with UNO (1998-2002) and also played for two seasons with the United States Hockey League's Lincoln Stars (1996-98), where he earned a spot on the USHL All-Star Team in 1997-98.

Fohr replaces Chadd Cassidy, who left to become an assistant coach with the American Hockey League's Rochester Americans after five seasons at the NTDP.

TORONTO -- Johnny Damon hit two home runs and drove in three runs, but it was not enough for the Rays on Monday.

They were left to lament three other hard-hit balls that became double plays as the Blue Jays' dormant bats came alive for a 7-3 victory before 19,725 at Rogers Centre to prevent a Rays' sweep of the four-game series.

The Blue Jays have not been swept in a four-game series at home since the Red Sox did it May 31-June 3, 2003.

SAN FRANCISCO -- Giants hitters sank to unprecedented depths Monday night, joined in their descent by an unusual companion: Tim Lincecum.

San Francisco's offense was more lifeless than ever, mustering a season-low two hits. Departing from the Cy Young Award-winning form that he had sustained lately, Lincecum surrendered a career-worst three home runs.

This mixture proved toxic for the Giants, whose World Series title defense appeared increasingly futile after a 7-0 loss to the Chicago Cubs.
