U.S. Women's National Team Tops Switzerland, 11-1,
at 2011 Women's IIHF Twelve Nations Invitational Tournament Series

Duggan Named U.S. Player of the Game

VIERUMAKI, Finland -- Monique Lamoureux-Kolls (Grand Forks, N.D.), Jocelyne Lamoureux (Grand Forks, N.D.) and Kelli Stack (Brooklyn Heights, Ohio) each posted three points as the U.S. Women's National Team defeated Switzerland, 11-1, in its third game of the International Ice Hockey Federation Twelve Nations Invitational Tournament Series. With the win, the U.S. improved to 3-0 in the tournament.

"We had a young line-up tonight," said Katey Stone, head coach of the 2011 U.S. Women's National Team. "It was fun to watch all of those kids share the puck and create a lot of offense. It was one of those games where we were able to work on a lot of different things, which was good for us."

Lamoureux-Kolls opened the scoring with a shorthanded tally at 4:47 in the first period. Switzerland recorded its lone goal of the game less than a minute later on the power play. But the U.S. reclaimed the lead six seconds later, as Meghan Duggan (Danvers, Mass.) lit the lamp at 5:28.

Hilary Knight (Sun Valley, Idaho) scored back-to-back goals at 5:55 and 6:12 of the first period, with her second tally coming on the power play. Amanda Kessel (Verona, Wis.) followed suit with a power-play marker at 8:01 and Duggan struck for her second goal of the night en route to earning U.S. Player of the Game honors. Lamoureux-Kolls recorded her second goal of the game at 15:32 to give the U.S. a 7-1 lead. With 42 seconds remaining in the first period, Brianna Decker (Dousman, Wis.) notched a power-play goal to put the U.S. ahead 8-1 at the end of the opening frame.

The U.S. held a 10-1 lead at the second intermission thanks to goals from Jen Schoullis (Erie, Pa.) and Lamoureux in the middle frame. Stack scored the lone goal in the third period at 12:22 to secure the U.S. victory.

U.S. netminder Jessie Vetter (Cottage Grove, Wis.) made 11 saves in the win.

The U.S. Women's National Team next plays Canada Sunday (Aug. 28) at 7:00 a.m. EDT in its fourth of six games at Vierumäki Arena.

NOTES: Meghan Duggan was named the U.S. Player of the Game ... Twelve different players picked up a point in the win over Switzerland ... TAMPA -- Josh Freeman proved Saturday night against the Dolphins he still does his best work with the clock winding down.

That might be good because time is quickly running out on the Bucs quarterback to get the offense tuned up for the regular season.

Freeman looked out of synch until directing a tying 54-yard touchdown drive over the final two minutes of the first half.

With the Bucs trailing 10-3 with 2:09 remaining in the quarter, Freeman, running a no-huddle offense, completed three passes and scrambled for 17 yards to set up Earnest Graham's 2-yard touchdown run.

The Bucs won the game 17-13 when third-string quarterback Rudy Carpenter connected on a 7-yard touchdown to tight end Nathan Overbay. It was a much better performance overall for the Bucs than their 31-14 defeat to the Patriots on Aug. 19.

TORONTO -- Jeff Niemann could not keep the Rays' run of seven-inning starts alive on Saturday.

But more important is that he did get the win as the Rays, bolstered by a big homer from B.J. Upton, beat the Blue Jays, 6-5, before 24,052 at Rogers Centre.

The Rays, who withstood two eighth-inning homers from Toronto, are an American League-best 19-9 since July 28.

SAN FRANCISCO -- Mark DeRosa and Jeff Keppinger combined to manufacture a tiebreaking run in Saturday night's 10th inning to lift the Giants past the Houston Astros, 2-1.

With one out, DeRosa singled off Houston right-hander Fernando Rodriguez (2-3) and stole second base, his first theft since Sept. 12, 2009. Mike Fontenot struck out before Keppinger lined a 2-2 pitch over the head of Astros second baseman Jose Altuve for a single. DeRosa slid home, beating right fielder Brian Bogusevic's throw.

The decision kept the Giants three games behind first-place Arizona in the National League West standings.

BRISTOL, Tenn. -- Brad Keselowski's phoenix-like rise from the ashes continued Saturday, with an improbable victory in the Irwin Tools Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway -- his third win of the season and his second since breaking his left ankle Aug. 3 in a crash during testing at Road Atlanta.

Keselowski grabbed the lead on a restart with 80 laps left in the 500-lap Sprint Cup race and held on to win for the fourth time in his career. The victory all but assured Keselowski of at least a wild-card position in the upcoming Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.

Martin Truex Jr. ran second, followed by Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson and Jamie McMurray. Matt Kenseth, Denny Hamlin, pole-sitter Ryan Newman, Carl Edwards and Marcos Ambrose completed the top 10.
