U.S. Women's National Under-18 Team Falls to Canada, 3-2,
at 2011 Women's Under-18 Series

Game Three of the Series is Set for Sunday

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Despite a 25-18 shots-on-goal advantage, the U.S. Women's National Under-18 Team dropped a 3-2 decision to Canada tonight in the second of three games between the two countries at the 2011 Women's Under-18 Series in Rockland, Ont. Team USA won the opening game of the series on Thursday (Aug. 18) by a 3-2 count.

"I thought we played very well," said Heather Linstad, head coach of the 2011 U.S. Women's National Under-18 Team. "It was a terrific hockey game between two very good teams. On the game-winner, they caught us on a little bit of a breakdown and unfortunately, that's going to happen at times."

After a scoreless first period, Canada opened a 1-0 lead 3:04 into the second frame. But a pair of goals in the final six minutes of the period gave Team USA a 2-1 advantage after 40 minutes. Alex Carpenter (North Reading, Mass.) found the back of the net to gain the first U.S. marker at 14:29, with help from Haley Skarupa (Rockville, Md.) and Mary Anne Kennedy-Menefee (Lansing, Mich.), before Anne Pankowski (Laguna Hills, Calif.) put the U.S. in the lead with a power-play goal at 18:22.

Canada, however, rallied to even the game 1:17 into the third stanza, before Nicole Connery potted the game-winner with just 1:15 left in regulation.

U.S. netminder Megan Miller (Long Grove, Ill.) made 15 saves in the game.

The teams play the third and final game of the series Sunday (Aug. 21) at 10:00 a.m. EDT at the Canadian International Hockey Academy in Rockland, Ont.
