ST PETERSBURG --  The Rays used a big sixth inning to beat the Cardinals, 5-1, in front of 23,897 at Tropicana Field on Saturday.
Tampa Bay entered the sixth down, 1-0, but first baseman Casey Kotchman changed that. With the bases loaded, Kotchman ripped a double down the right-field line off St. Louis starter Kyle McClellan to plate all three runners and put the Rays ahead, 3-1.
The damage wasn't done, though. The next batter, Justin Ruggiano, crushed a 2-0 pitch for a two-run homer to extend Tampa Bay's lead to four runs. It was his first roundtripper since June 14.
The home run chased McClellan out of the game after 5 2/3 innings. The right-hander gave up all five runs following five scoreless frames.

DETROIT --  The Giants' hitters rarely took a break in Saturday night's 15-3 victory over the Tigers.
But their most impressive performer might have been pitcher Barry Zito, who overcame both lack of rest and then too much rest in his second consecutive solid outing since returning from the disabled list.
A minor fuss was made over the fact that Zito (2-1) would pitch on three days' rest, one fewer than usual. Actually, as a practitioner of the old-fashioned habit of throwing nearly every day between starts, Zito was the right man for the job.

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida -- Less than five months later, at the site of his biggest mistake, David Ragan got it right.

On the second attempt at a green-white-checkered-flag finish, Ragan was out front when caution flew on the 10th lap of overtime in Saturday night's Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway, giving the driver of the No. 6 Ford his first NASCAR Sprint Cup victory.

At Daytona in February, Ragan gave away a chance to win the Daytona 500 when he changed lanes before the start/finish line on a restart. On Saturday, however, he got a strong push from Roush Fenway Racing teammate Matt Kenseth and won the race under caution when a massive wreck on the final lap brought out the final yellow flag.
Kenseth came home second, followed by Joey Logano, Kasey Kahneand Kyle Busch.
