Casey Jorgensen Joins USA Hockey National Office Staff
as First General Counsel

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Casey Jorgensen, who has practiced law for 12 years and been involved in hockey for over 30 years, has been named USA Hockey's first-ever staff general counsel.

A member of USA Hockey's Board of Directors, Jorgensen has served on the organization's Legal Council for the last 10 years while also earning membership at Williams, Kastner & Gibbs, PLLC.

"We're extremely pleased to have Casey joining our senior staff," said Dave Ogrean, executive director of USA Hockey. "He has extensive law experience and a vast knowledge of hockey, making him well-equipped to provide support and counsel to the organization as we strive to grow, effectively operate and govern the sport in the U.S."

As general counsel, Jorgensen will serve as the first point of contact for USA Hockey on all legal matters, while supporting the efforts of the organization's staff and volunteer leadership.

“I am incredibly excited to be joining USA Hockey’s exceptional staff and to work with USA Hockey’s extensive network of volunteer leaders," said Jorgensen. "I feel privileged to get the opportunity to combine my legal career with my passion for the sport of hockey and my commitment to USA Hockey.”

"Casey has been a valued member of the Legal Council and USA Hockey community for many years, and his advice, counsel and experience are highly respected," said Peter Lindberg, vice president of USA Hockey and long-time chair of the organization's Legal Council. "I applaud his appointment as the first USA Hockey staff general counsel and look forward to working with him in the future on any legal issues facing USA Hockey."

For the past 12 years, Jorgensen has practiced law with Williams, Kastner & Gibbs, PLLC, a full-service firm based in Seattle. He was elected to the firm's membership after seven years and has primarily served as a business and transactional lawyer, focusing on evaluating, structuring, negotiating and closing business transactions; corporate governance; counseling clients; and managing legal affairs for various aspects of clients' businesses. In addition, he has led the firm's trademark practice that deals with the registration, protection, liscensing and enforcement of trademarks.

Jorgensen's involvement in the hockey community began over 30 years ago. While playing youth hockey, he embarked on an officiating career at the age of 12. Excelling in the profession, he was hired as a linesman in the Western Hockey League at just 17 years old. He officiated various levels of amateur and professional hockey for 25 years, including 12 years in the WHL (1986-98) and six years in the West Coast Hockey League (1995-2001), as well as at several USA Hockey National Championships and international events.

Jorgensen's involvement on the volunteer-leadership side of USA Hockey began in 1996 when he took on the role of referee-in-chief for inline hockey in the Northwest Zone. He held that role until 2006, while also becoming part of the Legal Council in 2001. From 2006-10, he served as the director of the Inline Section and he currently serves as the director of the Pacific District, a role he was elected to in 2010.

With USA Hockey, Jorgensen has been involved in a variety of legal and leadership roles, including drafting and interpreting bylaws provisions, the guidance and management of internal and external disputes and advising the organization and its Board and officers on legal matters.

A 1992 graduate of the University of Washington with a bachelor's degree in political science, Jorgensen completed his law degree at the Seattle University School of Law in 1998. He is a member of the American Bar Association, Washington State Bar Association, King Country Bar Association, International Trademark Association, Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce and Master Builders Association.

(In the small world department Casey, along with Dick Post, were my linesmen for a 5-overtime Pee Wee B championship game at the 1983 Pacific Northwest Amateur Hockey Association tournament in Spokane, Washington. Congratulations on the new gig Casey!)

CLEVELAND --  Joe Maddon called the just-completed road trip a "litmus test" for what kind of club the Rays have. And the results were favorable to say the least.
Tampa Bay finished out its six-game road trip on a winning note by taking a 7-4 win over the Cleveland Indians on Thursday afternoon at Progressive Field with 18,107 watching.
With the victory, the Rays moved to 22-15 on the season and finished the road trip to Baltimore and Cleveland with a 5-1 mark. They now head home to face the Orioles on Friday night in the opener of a three-game weekend series at Tropicana Field before completing the homestand with a two-game series against the Yankees.

SAN FRANCISCO -As impressive as Matt Cain was on the mound in Thursday's 3-2 Giants victory, efficiently mowing down the D-backs all afternoon, his signature moment may have come at the plate.
A throw from Arizona right-hander Daniel Hudson bounced off Cain's pitching hand and up toward his face as he was looking to drop a sacrifice bunt. Cain fell awkwardly to the ground, and manager Bruce Bochy and head athletic trainer Dave Groeschner came out to look at his injured hand. Cain admitted after the game that his hand was the only thing that prevented the ball from hitting him in the face.
