ST. PETERSBURG -- Fans got a taste of what Jeremy Hellickson had to offer late last season, and that's why for much of Tuesday and all of Wednesday, the hype grew around the right-hander's debut.
He had big shoes to fill, having stepped into the hole vacated by Matt Garza's offseason trade to the Cubs.
He had a tall order, to try and deliver the Rays their first win of the season.
He had big expectations to live up to, after the flawless record he posted in his short time with the big club in 2010.
In the end, there was no win to show for it, but praise was still heaped upon the 23-year-old following the Rays' 5-1 loss to the Angels.

Last month we heard that somewhere around 1.5 billion people could be expected to watch or listen to at least part of the wedding live. Now that number has risen to 2 billion.

SAN DIEGO -- The National League West standings won't say so, but the Giants' pair of victories on their two-city season-opening road trip seemed to eclipse their four defeats.
They fell short in each of their losses by two runs or fewer, maintaining their typical competitiveness. Meanwhile, the Giants looked worthy of their status as reigning World Series champions in both of their wins, including Wednesday's 8-4 decision over the Padres.

2000 - Michael Abram attended a hearing for his attempt to murder George Harrison and his wife Olivia on December 30, 1999. Abram was ordered to appear for trial, but a date was not set.

2004 - A High Court judge ruled that a trademark battle between Apple Computer Inc. and Apple Corps Ltd. should be heard in London. The suit was filed by the Beatles' owned company and claimed that Apple Computer had violated a 1991 agreement concerning the exlcusive "field of use" of the Apple mark.
