Halldorson to Serve as Keynote Speaker; Ruzzi to Host
2011 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award Ceremony in Erie, Pa.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Mike Ruzzi, sports director at WICU-TV (NBC) in Erie, Pa., will serve as the master of ceremonies for the 2011 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award Ceremony, presented by Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, which will be held at the Bayfront Convention Center in Erie on March 19. In addition, Laura Halldorson, who led the University of Minnesota women's ice hockey team to three NCAA Division I national championships as head coach, will be the keynote speaker.

An award of The USA Hockey Foundation, the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award is annually bestowed upon the top player in NCAA Division I women's ice hockey. The award will be presented at a brunch ceremony, held in conjunction with the NCAA Women's Frozen Four (March 18 & 20). All four teams participating in the Frozen Four are expected to attend.

Ruzzi, a graduate of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, has been the sports director at WICU-TV since 1986, and also serves as an anchor and reporter. Along with covering the local events, he has worked the Super Bowl, World Series and Stanley Cup playoffs. In addition, Ruzzi has been actively involved in Erie City Special Olympics over the last 15 years serving as a host for their local events, and has been a co-host for the Children’s Miracle Network Telethon for the last 15 years as well.

One of the most successful coaches in women's hockey history, Halldorson led the University of Minnesota women's ice hockey team to three NCAA Division I national championships (2000, 2004, 2005) and became the only women's ice hockey head coach to lead a program to five consecutive Frozen Four appearances (2002-06). In her 11 years at the helm of Minnesota, she amassed a 278-67-22 overall record for a .787 winning percentage. She also served seven years as head coach of the Colby College women's ice hockey team and finished her 18-year head coaching career with a 337-142-31 overall record.

Halldorson has received several coaching accolades, including ECAC Co-Coach of the Year in 1996; American Hockey Coaches Association National Coach of the Year in 1998, 2002 and 2004; and Western Collegeiate Hockey Association Coach of the Year in 2001, 2002 and 2005. She coached five Olympians, including 2005 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award winner Krissy Wendell. Prior to coaching, Halldorson was a co-captain and all-conference performer for Princeton University from 1981-85, where she competed alongside Patty Kazmaier. Upon graduating, she served as an assistant coach at Princeton for two years before beginning her head-coaching career.

ABOUT PATTY KAZMAIER
The Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award is named in honor of the late Patty Kazmaier, who was a four-year varsity letter-winner and All-Ivy League defenseman at Princeton University from 1981-86. An accomplished athlete who helped lead the Tigers to the Ivy League Championship in three consecutive seasons (1981-84), Patty Kazmaier-Sandt died on Feb. 15, 1990, at the age of 28 following a long struggle with a rare blood disease.
