2010-11 U.S. National Junior Sled Hockey Team to Compete in Second International Exhibition Series of Season

Team USA to Face Canada in Three-Game Set in Essex, Ont.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The 2010-11 U.S. National Junior Sled Hockey Team will play its second international exhibition series of the 2010-11 season this weekend in Essex, Ont.

Team USA will take on Canada's national sled development team tonight (Jan. 13) at 6 p.m. EST, Friday (Jan. 14) at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday (Jan. 15) at 12:30 p.m. at the Essex Arena and Sports Complex.

The exhibition series against Canada marks the fifth gathering of the season for the U.S. National Junior Sled Hockey Team, which held three training camps in Buffalo, N.Y., in the fall. In addition, Team USA met Canada's developmental team in a three-game exhibition series in December.

NOTES: The 2010-11 U.S. National Junior Sled Hockey Team includes seven returning members from last year's squad, including goaltender Danny Hefley (Wexford, Pa.); defensemen Tyler Anderson (Jenison, Mich.), John Mollica (The Plains, Ohio) and Mason Newbold (Lockport, N.Y.); and forwards Raymond Beck (Sicklerville, N.J.), Connor Fee (Spotswood, N.J.) and Ryan Pelletier (Columbia, Conn.) ... Beck and Bryan Genovese (Oceanside, N.Y.) have each spent time with the U.S. National Sled Hockey Team this season as well ... Head Coach Gregg Marinari served as the assistant coach of the 2009-10 U.S. National Junior Sled Hockey Team ... Assistant Coach Kip St. Germaine is a three-time U.S. Paralympic Sled Hockey Team member (1998, 2002, 2006) and most recently skated with the 2009-10 U.S. National Sled Hockey Team.

U.S. Nat'l Under-18 Returns to USHL Action at Home This Weekend; U-17's Look to Continue Winning Streak Against Chicago Friday

THIS WEEK: The U.S. National Under-18 Team plays host to two United States Hockey League foes this weekend. Green Bay takes the league's best record to the Ann Arbor Ice Cube, when Team USA squares off with the Gamblers at 7:00 p.m. ET on Friday (Jan. 14). The following night (Jan. 15), the Youngstown Phantoms clash with the U.S. at 4:00 p.m. ET.

The Under-17 Team travels to Chicago on Friday (Jan. 14) to take on the Steel. Puck drop is set for 8:30 p.m. ET at the Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville, Ill.

U18 TEAM FALLS TO COLLEGE COMPETITION: At Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis, John Gibson (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Matt McNeely (Burnsvile, Minn.) combined to make 28 saves, but the U.S. National Under-18 Team could not find the back of the net and was blanked by the University of Minnesota, 9-0, last Friday (Jan. 7) in NCAA exhibition action.

The following night (Jan. 8), the Under-18 Team met No. 5 University of Minnesota Duluth. Rocco Grimaldi (Rossmoor, Calif.) netted a goal and McNeely made 42 saves as the U.S. National Under-18 Team fell to the Bulldogs, 4-1, at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center.

U17 TEAM NOTCHES TWO CONSECUTIVE WINS LAST WEEKEND: Straight off the heels of a second-place finish at the World Under-17 Challenge in Winnipeg, the U.S. National Under-17 Team returned to USHL action against Sioux City last Saturday (Jan. 8). Connor Carrick (Orland Park, Ill.) and Cameron Darcy (South Boston, Mass.) each notched a goal and an assist, as the U.S. triumphed over the Musketeers, 4-2, at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube. Collin Olson (Apple Valley, Minn.) stopped 20 shots for Team USA in the win.

Ryan Hartman (West Dundee, Ill.) scored the game tying goal with three seconds remaining in regulation to send the game against Youngstown into overtime Sunday afternoon (Jan. 9). After a scoreless five-minute overtime period, the game went to the shootout. Jared Rutledge (Chicago, Ill.) was perfect against the five Phantoms shooters he faced, and Stefan Matteau (Chicago, Ill.) notched the only score of the shootout, giving Team USA the 4-3 win.

NTDP ALUMNI UPDATE: Three alums were invited to participate in the 2011 National Hockey League All-Star Game. Ryan Kesler (Livonia, Mich./2000-02), Patrick Kane (Buffalo, N.Y./2004-06), and Phil Kessel (Madison, Wis./2003-05) will represent the NTDP, along with NHL rookies and fellow alumni Cam Fowler (Farmington Hills, Mich./2007-09) and Kevin Shattenkirk (New Rochelle, N.Y./2005-07), who will be taking part in the Honda SuperSkills competition held prior to the All-Star game ... Kane scored two goals in the Chicago Blackhawks' shootout win against the Ottawa Senators on Friday, Jan. 7. ... Colin Wilson (Greenwich, Conn./2005-07) had a goal and two assists last Thursday night to help the Nashville Predators defeat the Los Angeles Kings, 5-2 ... Columbus Blue Jackets forward R.J. Umberger (Pittsburgh, Pa./1998-00) is on a hot streak, scoring goals in four of his past six games, giving him 14 tallies for the season thus far.
