Roster Set for 2011 U.S. National Junior Team
Twenty-Two Players Will Compete at IIHF World Junior Championship in Buffalo, N.Y.
Rochester, N.Y. - USA Hockey today announced its 22-player roster the 2011 U.S. National Junior Team that will compete at the International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship Dec. 26, 2010-Jan. 5, 2011, in Buffalo, N.Y.
"There's a great combination of experience and talent on this roster," said Jim Johannson, general manager of the 2011 U.S. National Junior Team. "The fact that these decisions were so hard is a testament to where hockey has come in the United States."
"I'm excited with this group of guys moving forward," said Keith Allain, head coach of the 2011 U.S. National Junior Team. "We've got good speed and talent across the board, which should help us in a tournament with so many skilled teams."
Among those named to the 2011 roster are eight returning players from the gold medal-winning 2010 U.S. National Junior Team, including goaltender Jack Campbell (Port Huron, Mich.); defenseman John Ramage (Chesterfield, Mo./Univ. of Wisconsin); and forwards Ryan Bourque (Boxford, Mass.), Jerry D'Amigo (Binghamton, N.Y.), Chris Kreider (Boxford, Mass./Boston College), Jeremy Morin (Auburn, N.Y.), Kyle Palmieri (Montvale, N.J.) and Jason Zucker (Las Vegas, Nev./Univ. of Denver).
Also highlighting the preliminary roster are six players from the gold medal-winning 2010 U.S. National Under-18 Team, including Campbell and Andy Iles (Ithaca, N.Y./Cornell Univ.) in goal; defensemen Justin Faulk (South St. Paul, Minn./Univ. of Minnesota Duluth), Derek Forbort (Duluth, Minn./Univ. of North Dakota) and Jon Merrill (Brighton, Mich./Univ. of Michigan); and forward Zucker.

Team USA will face Norway on Thursday (Dec. 23) at the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena in Jamestown, N.Y., in its final final tune-up prior to the 2011 IIHF World Junior Championship. The game will begin at 7:30 p.m. EST, and will be streamed live on FASTHockey.com.
NOTES: The U.S. will be defending its 2010 IIHF World Junior Championship gold medal, having defeated Canada, 6-5, in overtime, to claim the title last year in Saskatoon, Sask. U.S. Nat'l Under-18 and Under-17 Teams Enjoy Short Break Before Returning to Action
THIS WEEK: The U.S. National Under-18 Team has the week off for the holidays and returns to action when it visits the University of Southern Maine (Jan. 1) and University of Maine (Jan. 2) in the New Year.
The Under-17 Team will enjoy a short break before returning to action at the 2011 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Winnipeg and Portage La Prairie, Man., from Dec. 29-Jan. 4., where the U.S. is the defending champion. Team USA will open with an exhibition game against Team West from Canada on Dec. 28 before the start of the tournament.
U18 TEAM DROPS TWO ON THE ROAD: The U.S. National Under-18 Team battled hard throughout the entire game, but ultimately fell, 2-1, to the No. 5 ranked University of North Dakota Fight Sioux at Ralph Engelstad Arena (Dec. 18). J.T. Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio), a verbal commit to UND, scored once and Matt McNeely (Burnsville, Minn.) turned in a courageous 38-save effort in the loss to earn the game's third star.
The previous night (Dec. 17), Andrew Copp (Ann Arbor, Mich.), a recent call-up to fill in for injuries among the forward ranks, scored one goal and John Gibson (Pittsburgh, Pa.) made 28 saves as the U.S. National Under-18 Team fell to the Fargo Force of the United States Hockey League, 6-1, at the Urban Plains Center in Fargo, N.D.
U17 TEAM EDGES ICE: Forward Miles Koules (Los Angeles, Calif.) scored the game-winning goal at 15:07 of the third period and Jared Rutledge (Chicago, Ill.) made 36 saves as the U.S. National Under-17 Team came away victorious aganst the Indiana Ice, 4-3, at the Pepsi Coliseum in Indianapolis (Dec. 17).
NTDP ALUMNI UPDATE: Ryan Kesler (Livonia, Mich./2000-02) scored his first career hat trick last Wednesday (Dec. 15) in Vancouver's 3-2 overtime win over Columbus. Kesler has accumulated 13 points (7-6) in his previous 11 games and is a +9 for the month of December ... Ryan Whitney (Scituate, Mass./2000-01) had two assists and was a +4 in Edmonton's 6-3 win over Columbus last Friday. Whitney is tied for sixth overall in the National Hockey League in assists and is tied for first among U.S. born players (Dustin Byfuglien) ... Jake Dowell (Eau Claire, Wis./2001-03) is ranked fourth with 13 points (4-9) among U.S. born rookies in 35 games played with the Chicago Blackhawks this season ... James van Riemsdyk (Middletown, N.J./2005-07) has five points (1-4) in his last five games and is a +3 over that span ... Drew Shore (Denver, Colo./2007-09) is tied for fifth on the Men's Division I overall hockey statistics leader board, amassing 25 points (14-11) in 20 games played for the University of Denver.
