Boston University New No. 1 in USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Hockey Poll
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Boston University claims the No. 1 ranking for the first time this year in this week's USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Hockey Poll. The Terriers collected 489 points and 23-of-34 first-place votes to earn the top spot after recording a tie against No. 5 University of Maine last weekend.
The University of Minnesota Duluth remains at No. 2 with 444 points and five first-place votes after splitting a weekend series with No. 10 University of North Dakota, while Miami University claims the No. 3 spot with 424 points and three first-place votes following a shootout win over Ferris State University. Yale University advances two places to No. 4 with 423 points and two first-place votes after defeating Princeton University and Quinnipiac University, while the University of Maine (333) rounds out the top five.
This weekend features six top-15 teams squaring off, including weekend series between No. 3 Miami University and No. 13 University of Alaska, No. 9 University of Michigan and No. 11 University of Notre Dame, and No. 10 University of North Dakota and No. 14 University of Wisconsin.

University of Wisconsin Remains No. 1 in USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Women's College Hockey Poll
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Wisconsin remains No. 1 in this week's USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Women's College Hockey Poll following a split with No. 7 University of Minnesota last weekend. The Badgers accumulated 183 points and 14-of-19 first-place votes to claim the top spot.
Cornell University remains in the No. 2 spot with 159 points and four first-place votes after earning victories over No. 10 Harvard University and Dartmouth University, and losing to No. 3 Mercyhurst College (144), who also suffered a loss to Niagara University last weekend. No. 4 University of Minnesota Duluth (143) logged a weekend split with Bemidji State University, while No. 5 Boston University (127) picked up one first-place vote after collecting wins over Providence College and the University of New Hampshire.
NOTES: The Western Collegiate Hockey Association leads all conferences with five ranked teams, while the Hockey East Association and ECAC Hockey each have two. Mercyhurst College is the only College Hockey America team ranked ... A total of 12 teams received votes.

U.S. Women's Select Team Tops Canada, 3-2, in Shootout
Team USA Opens 2010 Women's Four Nations Cup with Victory
ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - Hilary Knight (Sun Valley, Idaho) scored the winning goal in a shootout to propel the U.S. Women's Select Team to a 3-2 win over Canada in the opening game of the 2010 Women's Four Nations Cup for both teams here tonight at Mile One Centre. Jessie Vetter (Cottage Grove, Wis.) stopped all three shooters and made 32 saves in net for the victory.
The U.S. scored in the opening seconds of the game for a 1-0 lead that held through the first period. Canada scored a pair of power-play markers and the Americans added a tally in the second frame for a 2-2 score that remained until the end of overtime before Team USA clinched the win in a shootout.
"It was a good start for us," said Katey Stone, head coach for Team USA. "We have a lot to build on from here. We exposed our weaknesses and our strong goaltending kept us in the game. We got better as the game went on and put ourselves in a position to win - there are good things to come."
Team USA got on the board just :11 into the contest when Jocelyne Lamoureux (Grand Forks, N.D.) dumped the puck into the Canadian zone, it bounced off the end boards and found Jenny Potter (Edina, Minn.) in front of the net. Potter knocked it into the open net while Canadian netminder Shannon Szabados was out of the goal intending to play the puck.
Despite an early Canadian power-play opportunity and back-to-back American man-advantage chances late in the frame, the score remained 1-0 at the end of the period.
In the second period, Canada scored on the power play at the 2:07 mark to tie the score at 1-1 before Meghan Duggan (Danvers, Mass.) deflected a Caitlin Cahow (Branford, Conn.) shot past Szabados to put the U.S. back up by a goal at 10:18. Just over two minutes later, Canada again converted on a power play, this time with Meaghan Mikkelson putting a wrister in the near side of the net from the left faceoff circle at 12:36.
The teams played to a draw in the third period, each killing off one penalty while Canada held a slight edge in shots, 11-10.
In the five minute 4-on-4 overtime session, Vetter stopped both of Canada's shots to send the game to a shootout, where Knight was the lone scorer for either team to secure the tournament-opening victory.
The game was the first time the U.S. and Canada played each other since the gold-medal match at the 2010 Olympics. In that game, which featured the same two goaltenders, Canada posted a 2-0 win. The U.S. victory over Canada was the first in the last seven games between the two teams.

U.S. National Under-17 Team Defeats Slovakia, 4-1, in its Opening Game of the 2010 Under-17 Four Nations Cup
Hartman, Trouba and Jones Each Record Two Points in Victory
WOODRIDGE, Ill. - Ryan Hartman (West Dundee, Ill./1-1), Jacob Trouba (Rochester, Mich.1-1) and Seth Jones (Plano, Texa/0-2) all recorded two points, as the U.S. National Under-17 Team defeated Slovakia, 4-1, in its opening game of the 2010 Under-17 Four Nations Cup here tonight at Seven Bridges Ice Arena. The U.S. outshot Slovakia 58-14 in the win.
"I thought the team played hard tonight and had quality puck control," said Danton Cole, head coach of the U.S. National Under-17 Team. "For the first game of the tournament, we got off to a good start and we will need to continue to get better each game."
Team USA opened the scoring 6:03 into the first period, when Hartman converted on a five-on-three power play opportunity. Jones sent a pass to Hartman, who skated to the front of the net and fired a wrist shot that beat Slovakia goaltender Richard Sabol on the glove side.
Nicolas Kerdiles (Irvine, Calif.) scored less than four minutes later to give the U.S. a 2-0 lead. When Hartman's shot was blocked away by Sabol, Kerdiles picked up the rebound and sent a shot to the back of the net for the eventual game-winning goal.
Slovakia scored early in the second period, but Team USA notched two unanswered goals to complete the 4-1 victory.
With six minutes remaining in the middle frame, Trouba fired a slapshot that was redirected in front of the net for a power play goal that helped the U.S. regain its two-goal advantage. Kyle Osterberg (Lakeville, Minn.) then increased Team USA's lead to 4-1 with less than four minutes remaining in the period, when he scored on a tip-in from the front of the net.
Jared Rutledge (Skokie, Ill.) made 13 saves for the U.S. in the win, while Richard Sabol stopped 54 shots for Slovakia in the loss.
The U.S. National Under-17 Team will next face Switzerland tomorrow (Nov. 10) at 8 p.m. ET.
