Dale Tallon Added to U.S. Men's National Team Advisory Committee
Joins Burke, Holmgren, Lombardi, Poille, Shero and Waddell
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Dale Tallon, executive vice president and general manager of hockey operations for the National Hockey League's Florida Panthers, has been added to the U.S. Men's National Team Advisory Committee, it was annouced today by USA Hockey.
"We're obviously excited to have Dale join our advisory group," said Jim Johannson, assistant executive director of hockey operations at USA Hockey. "He brings a great deal of passion for international hockey and has shown an adept ability in evaluating players."
Tallon will join fellow NHL front-office personnel Brian Burke (Toronto Maple Leafs), Paul Holmgren (Philadelphia Flyers), Dean Lombardi (Los Angeles Kings), David Poile (Nashville Predators), Ray Shero (Pittsburgh Penguins) and Don Waddell (Atlanta Thrashers) on the advisory committee that is charged with leading the selection of players for the U.S. Men's National Team.
NOTE: The 2011 U.S. Men's National Team will compete at the International Ice Hockey Federation World Championship from April 29-May 15, 2011, in Bratislava and Kosice, Slovakia.
NHL Opening Night Rosters Feature Highest-Ever U.S.-Born Percentage
20.5 Percent on Opening Night Rosters Born in U.S.; 25 of 50 States Represented
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Among the 711 players on the NHL's 2010-11 opening-night rosters, 146 of them (20.5 percent) were born in the United States, according to the NHL. This number represents the highest U.S.-born percentage ever on the NHL's early-season rosters.
In 1983-84, the percentage of American-born players in the NHL totaled 13 percent, while the year before the 2004-05 lockout, the percentage equated to 15.5 percent. Through 2007-10, the percentage averaged 19.8 percent.
Twenty-five of the 50 states were represented on NHL opening-night rosters, including non-traditional states, such as California, Delaware, Maryland, North Carolina and Texas. In addition, more players from the state of New York (23) appeared on rosters than from Russia (22), and the New York state total matched that of Finland.
Ashley Bevan and Scott Monaghan Promoted
McLaughlin Receives Additional Responsibilities
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Ashley Bevan has been promoted to senior director of adult hockey, while Scott Monaghan has been promoted to senior director of operations for USA Hockey's National Team Development Program, it was announced today by USA Hockey.
"For more than a dozen years each, Ashley and Scott have successfully and conscientiously worked to build and improve our programs," said Dave Ogrean, USA Hockey's executive director. "The historic growth of our adult membership, and the unprecedented success of our National Team Development Program, are a testimony to the dedication and effort of each of them."
Bevan has been with USA Hockey for more than a decade, and has served as director of adult hockey since 2003. He will continue to oversee the adult men's and women's ice hockey department, including membership, staff and programming. He also serves as the USA Hockey staff liaison to the adult ice hockey council. Through Bevan's time at USA Hockey, he has been instrumental in growing the game at the adult level, particularly with the implementation of events like the Labatt Blue/USA Hockey Pond Hockey National Championships, that take place every winter.
Monaghan has been with USA Hockey's National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor, Mich. since its inception in 1996. During the course of his career, he has served on the staff of 11 U.S. Men's National Under-18 Teams, including the gold medal-winning U.S. Men's National Under-18 Teams at the 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009 and 2010 International Ice Hockey Federation World Men's Under-18 Championships. Monaghan has also been part of the staff for six U.S. National Junior Teams, most recently serving as the team leader for the gold medal-winning team at the 2010 IIHF World Junior Championship in Regina and Saskatoon, Sask.
In addition, Ogrean announced that Kevin McLaughlin, senior director of hockey development for USA Hockey, will add oversight responsibilities for the organization's American Development Model and Coaching Education programs.

Duggan Scores Twice to Lead Team USA to Second Victory
ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - Meghan Duggan (Danvers, Mass.) scored twice and Molly Schaus (Natick, Mass.) turned aside all 22 shots she faced in leading the U.S. Women's Select Team to a 4-0 victory over Finland here tonight at Mile One Centre. With the win, the U.S. remains unbeaten in the tournament with one round-robin game left against Sweden on Friday (Nov. 12).
"We played with a lot more energy and conviction tonight," said Katey Stone, head coach for Team USA. "We forced a lot of turnovers and capitalized on Finland's mistakes - overall we had a much better team effort tonight."
Team USA controlled play throughout the majority of the opening frame, holding a 15-5 advantage in shots and gaining a 2-0 lead over the Finns. Jocelyne Lamoureux (Grand Forks, N.D.) was first to score for the Americans, as she dove in front of the net to knock in Haley Skarupa's (Rockville, Md.) rebound at 4:08. Brianna Decker (Dousman, Wis.) doubled the U.S. lead at 14:59 when she flipped the puck past Finnish netminder Maija Hassinen from the goalmouth at 14:59.
Duggan scored her pair of goals in the second period to extend the U.S. advantage to 4-0. Her first came at 3:24 from Decker, then she followed it up with a one-timer at 10:58 off a feed from Hilary Knight (Sun Valley, Idaho).
The 4-0 score held through the remaining frame, as Team USA killed off Finland's third power play of the night and Schaus made seven saves to preserve her shutout in net.

U.S. National Under-18 Team Falls to Sweden, 3-1, in Exhibition Game at 2010 Under-18 Four Nations Cup
Grimaldi Notches Goal; Gibson Makes 38 Saves
NYLAND, Sweden - Rocco Grimaldi (Rossmoor, Calif.) notched a power-play goal and John Gibson (Pittsburgh, Pa.) made 38 saves, but the U.S. National Under-18 Team fell to Sweden, 3-1, here tonight at Gardehov Arena, in an exhibition game leading up to the 2010 Under-18 Four Nations Cup.
"Tonight was a good learning experience for our team," said Ron Rolston, head coach of the U.S. National Under-18 Team. "We found out the difference between the U18 and U17 year in this team's first international loss."
Team USA grabbed an early lead less than two minutes into the first period, when Grimaldi scored on the power play. J.T. Miller (East Palestine, Ohio) collected an assist on the play. Sweden then notched three goals in the second period to win the pre-tournament contest, 3-1.
Gibson made 38 saves for Team USA in the loss, while Niklas Lundstrom stopped 31 shots in the win for Sweden.
The U.S. National Under-18 Team will next face Finland on Thursday (Nov. 12) at 9:30 a.m. ET.

U.S. Junior Select Team Tops Sweden, 5-1, at 2010 World Junior A Challenge
Team USA Advances to Semifinals with Perfect 2-0-0-0 Record
PENTICTON, B.C. - The U.S. Junior Select Team topped Sweden, 5-1, in its final preliminary-round game of the 2010 World Junior A Challenge. Team USA advanced to the semifinal round with an undefeated 2-0-0-0 record and will next play Saturday (Nov. 13).
"We're a little banged up right now, so the two days of rest come at a perfect time for us," said P.K. O'Handley, head coach of the U.S. Junior Select Team. "The mistakes that we've made are fixable, and we're right where we want to be."
Jimmy Mullin (Cincinnati, Ohio) gave the U.S. a 1-0 lead with his fourth tally of the tournament three minutes into the contest.
Just over one minute into the second period, Team USA extended its lead to 2-0 on the power play. A pass from Max McCormick (De Pere, Wis.) slid through traffic in the slot to the near boards, where Max Gaede (Woodbury, Minn.) fired a one-timer past Sweden goalie Tim Harrysson.
Cason Hohmann (Plymouth, Mich.) gave Team USA a 3-0 advantage five minutes into the second period when he tapped in a power-play goal from the near post. Seth Ambroz (New Prague, Minn.) tallied a rebound goal of his own less than four minutes later to push the U.S. advantage to four.
Team USA's Sam Warning (Chesterfield, Mo.) closed out the scoring with the lone goal of the third period. U.S. goalie Zane Gothberg (Thief River Falls, Minn.) made 32 saves in the victory, while Harrysson stopped 25 shots in a losing effort.

U.S. National Under-17 Team Defeats Switzerland, 6-1, at 2010 Under-17 Four Nations Cup
Miles Koules Records Three Points and Nets Game-Winner
WOODRIDGE, Ill. - Miles Koules (Los Angeles, Calif./2-1) recorded three points, including the game-winning goal, and Thomas Di Pauli (Woodridge, Ill.) and Patrick Sieloff (Ann Arbor, Mich.) each collected a goal and an assist, as the U.S. National Under-17 Team defeated Switzerland, 6-1, here tonight in the 2010 Under-17 Four Nations Cup at Seven Bridges Ice Arena.
"We are very happy with the outcome of the game," said Danton Cole, head coach of the U.S. National Under-17 Team. "We did a lot of good things on the ice, especially killing those three consecutive penalties in the third period."
Team USA opened the scoring with a goal at the 13:08 mark of the first period, when Nicolas Kerdiles (Irvine, Calif.) converted on a five-on-three power-play opportunity. Seth Jones (Plano, Texas) sent a pass to Jacob Trouba (Rochester, Mich.), who fired a slap shot on net from the left point. When Trouba's shot was blocked away by Swiss goaltender Melvin Nyffeler, Kerdiles banged in the rebound for the score.
Switzerland tied the game just a minute and a half later, but the U.S. responded with a goal by Koules to regain the lead heading into the first intermission. After a scrum in front of the net, Koules found the puck and poked it through Nyffeler for the 2-1 edge.
Di Pauli then gave Team USA a two-goal advantage when he scored 6:40 into the second period, by knocking Frankie Vatrano's (East Longmeadow, Mass.) shot out of the air and into the back of the net. Sieloff netted Team USA's second power-play goal of the game six minutes later, when he scored on a pass from Koules to increase the U.S. lead to 4-1. Just 28 seconds after his own goal, Sieloff fed the puck to Koules, who recorded his second score of the game.
Brady Skjei (Lakeville, Minn.) notched the lone third-period goal on a slap shot from the left point, after connecting on a cross-ice pass from Gavin Stoick (Portland, Ore.), to lift Team USA to a 6-1 victory.
Collin Olson (Apple Valley, Minn.) made 19 saves for Team USA in the win, while Nyffeler stopped 32 shots for Switzerland in the loss.
The U.S. National Under-17 Team will next face Russia on Friday (Nov. 12) at 8 p.m. ET.
