Miami University New No. 1 in USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Hockey Poll

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Miami University is the new No. 1 in this week's USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Hockey Poll after earning two victories over Northern Michigan University last weekend. The RedHawks collected 493 points and 18-of-34 first-place votes to claim the top spot.

Boston College falls to the No. 2 spot with 481 points and 14 first-place votes, following a loss to the University of Notre Dame. The University of Minnesota Duluth advances two places to No. 3 with 415 points and one first-place vote after twice defeating the University of Alaska-Anchorage, while the University of Michigan (365) claims the No. 4 spot following a weekend split with No. 9 University of Nebraska Omaha (219). Boston University rounds out the top five with 349 points and one first-place vote after earning victories over the University of Massachusetts Amherst and Providence College.

Notre Dame (143) makes its 2010-11 poll debut at No. 11, while No. 13 Union College (105) and No. 14 Michigan State University (104) also make their season debuts.

This weekend features three top-15 match-ups, with No. 8 University of North Dakota hosting No. 12 University of Denver for a weekend series, and No. 10 University of New Hampshire visiting No. 15 Cornell University for a Friday-night match-up.

NOTES: The Western Collegiate Hockey Association, Central Collegiate Hockey Association and Hockey East Association each boast four ranked programs, while ECAC Hockey boasts three ... A total of 23 teams received votes.

ABOUT THE POLL: The 16th annual USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men’s College Hockey Poll is conducted each week in conjunction with the American Hockey Coaches Association. The poll includes input from coaches and journalists representing each of the five NCAA Division I ice hockey conferences, as well as composite votes from officers of the AHCA and USA Hockey Magazine, the most widely distributed hockey magazine in the world.

SAN FRANCISCO -- The Giants announced their rotation for the World Series on Monday, flip-flopping Jonathan Sanchez and Matt Cain to give Cain the Game 2 start.


As expected, Tim Lincecum will start Wednesday's Game 1 against Texas left-hander Cliff Lee. Sanchez, who followed Lincecum in the National League Championship Series, will start the third game, while rookie left-hander Madison Bumgarner is slated for Game 4.
