A five-run seventh inning was the difference Sunday, as the Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Minnesota Twins 7-4, in front of 40,328 at Target Field in Minneapolis.

Each team got on the board with a run in the first. The Rays scored on an Evan Longoria triple that brought home Sean Rodriguez and Minnesota tied it on a Justin Morneau double that scored Joe Maurer.

Tampa Bay took the lead on a Sean Rodriguez third inning home run, to go up 2-1, then blew the game open with their five-run seventh. Jason Bartlett layed down a sacrifice bunt, but Twins pitcher Nick Blackburn threw the ball away, allowing Carlos Pena to score. With one out and the bases loaded, Longoria singled up the middle to score B.J. Upton and Bartlett, giving the Rays a 5-1 lead. Then, with two outs, Gabe Kapler doubled to bring home Carl Crawford and Longoria, for a 7-1 lead. Minnesota got three back in their half of the seventh, as Jim Thome singled home Morneau and Jason Kubel, and Michael Cuddyer scored on Delmon Young's single to left but the rally ended there and the Rays went on to take the 7-4 win.

James Shields pitched six innings for Tampa Bay, allowing 4 runs on 8 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 1 to get the win, he's now 7-8. Rafael Soriano pitched the ninth, fanning 2 and recording his 21st save of the season. Nick Blackburn took the loss for the Twins, allowing 7 runs, 4 earned on 9 hits, with 3 strike outs and 2 walks. He's now 7-6.

The Rays are now 47-33 and are third in the A.L. East, 1/2 game behind Boston and 2 games back of the Yankees. Tampa Bay returns home four seven games to lead up to the All-Star Break, with three against Boston and four against Cleveland. First pitch for tonight's game against Boston is 7:10pm EDT. You can hear all the action on 620AM WDAE and the Rays Radio Network. Tonight's game can be seen on on Sun Sports. After this home stand and the All-Star Break, the Rays head out for nine games, starting with a huge three-game set at the Yankees beginning on Friday, July 17th. Tampa Bay will also play three at Baltimore and three at Cleveland, before returning home on Monday, July 26th for their longest home stand of the season, 11 games, with the first of a four-game set against Detroit, to be followed by three against the Yankees and four against Minnesota.

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. -- The law of averages worked in Team Penske's favor at Watkins Glen International on a beautiful Fourth of July afternoon.

Will Power, who a day earlier gave Team Penske its sixth consecutive pole start at The Glen, gave the team its first IZOD IndyCar Series victory at the historic 3.4-mile, 11-turn torture track by holding off teammate Ryan Briscoe by 1.2181 seconds in the Camping World Grand Prix at The Glen.

It was the fourth major open-wheel victory at Watkins Glen for Team Penske. Bobby Unser won in 1979 and 1980 and Rick Mears in 1981 (in CART).

Reigning IZOD IndyCar Series champion Dario Franchitti finished third and Raphael Matos tied his season best with a fourth place in the No. 2 HP de Ferran Dragon Racing car (the team lost telemetry early in the race, disrupting items including fuel mileage readings).

Mario Moraes improved his season best by one place, finishing fifth in the No. 32 KV Racing Technology car. Seven teams were represented in the top 10 of the 60-lap race that was slowed by only two caution periods.

Power, who increased his championship points lead to 32 over Franchitti, takes a 70-point advantage over Ryan Hunter-Reay in the Mario Andretti Road Course Championship standings heading into the Honda Indy Toronto in two weeks.

KARLSTAD, Sweden -- Shawn Gawrys (St. Louis, Mo.) scored the game-winning goal with five minutes remaining in the final period to lead the U.S. InLine National Team to a 4-3 win over the Czech Republic here tonight in the gold-medal game of the 2010 International Ice Hockey Federation InLine Hockey World Championship. Team USA captured its fifth gold medal in tournament history (1996, 1997, 2004, 2006, 2010).

"After losing last year's gold-medal game by just one goal, this was definitely an exciting win," said U.S. head coach Rob Chornomud. "We answered every time we needed to respond tonight. The hard work has paid off for every player in that locker room."

Team USA jumped out to an early lead just 3:45 into the opening frame. Pat Lee (Shaumberg, Ill.) sent a pass to Kyle Kraemer (St. Louis, Mo.), who stickhandled past two defenders and fired a shot from just inside the right circle for the goal. The Czech Republic answered with a goal of its own, however, just 52 seconds later.

After the U.S. killed off back-to-back penalties in the second period, Kraemer and Lee connected again to give Team USA a 2-1 edge heading into halftime. Lee found Kraemer racing up the left side boards, where Kraemer used the Czech Republic defender as a screen and released a quick wrist shot for his second goal of the game.

Following another Czech Republic goal at the 3:54 mark of the third period, the U.S. responded to regain the lead, 3-2. James Beilsten (St. Louis, Mo.) drove to the net and let off a shot that was blocked. Pat Maroon (St. Louis, Mo.) picked up the rebound and sent a backhander to the top of the net for the goal at 6:49.

Just 2:31 into the final stanza, the Czech Republic evened the score for the third time, but Team USA once again responded to take a 4-3 advantage with 5:04 remaining in the game. C.J. Yoder (Colorado Springs, Colo.) sent a cross-ice pass to Maroon just inside the offensive blueline, who then found Gawrys skating up the right side. Gawrys raced to the front of the net and fired a wrist shot past Czech Republic goaltender Roman Handl for the gold medal-winning goal.

Team USA goaltender Troy Redmann (Brea, Calif.) made 18 saves in the victory, while Handl collected 23 saves for the Czech Republic in the loss.

NOTES: Nathan Sigmund was named the best forward of the tournament by the directorate ... The U.S. finished the tournament undefeated, with a 6-0-0-0 (W-OTW-OTL-L) record ... The Czech Republic's second-period goal was the lone first-half tally allowed by Team USA in the entire tournament ... Both teams went 0-for-2 on the power play in the gold-medal game ... For the full U.S. roster, click here ... Results and statistics from the tournament can be found here ... Rob Chornomud is serving as head coach for the 2010 U.S. InLine National Team for the second consecutive year, while former U.S. InLine National Team member Josh Milewski is serving as the assistant coach … In the 14-year history of the IIHF InLine Hockey World Championship, the United States has earned gold medals in 1996, 1997, 2004, 2006 and 2010; silver medals in 1998, 2001 and 2009; and bronze medals at the 2000, 2003 and 2005 tournaments. There was no tournament played in 1999.
