The Tampa Bay Rays won their fourth straight game, and sixth in their last seven last night, with a 3-2 win over the Boston Red Sox, before another smallish crowd of 19,902 at Tropicana Field.

The Rays scored first, when Jason Bartlett's single brought home John Jaso in the third, putting Tampa Bay up 1-0. The Red Sox drew even in the fourth, when a two-out single by Daniel Nava scored J.D. Drew, knotting the game at 1-1.

The Rays grabbed the lead once again in the fifth, thanks to a fielder's choice by Jaso that plated Sean Rodriguez. Tampa Bay then added a big insurance run, when Carl Crawford led off the eighth with a home run, giving the Rays a 3-1 lead.

That run proved to be significant when, in the ninth, when Boston's Bill Hall scored on an Eric Patterson two-out triple triple. With Kevin Youkilis having left the game in the fourth with an ankle injury, David Ortiz was walked intentionally, bringing Niuman Romero to the plate. Closer Rafael Soriano induced a one-strike grounder to second to end the game, giving Tampa Bay the 3-2 win.

Jeff Niemann allowed just 1 run on 4 hits over 6 innings, with 5 strike outs and 3 walks to get the win for the Rays, he's now 7-2. Soriano's save was hios 23rd of the season. Felix Doubront, called up from Triple-A Pawtucket to take the place of injured Clay Bucholz, allowed 2 runs on 5 hits with 3 strikeouts and 5 walks over 5 1/3 innings for the Red Sox, he's now 1-1.

Tampa Bay is now 50-33, second in the A.L. East, 2 games back of the Yankees. The Rays are home against Boston again tonight, with first pitch set for 7:10pm EDT. You can hear all the action on 620AM WDAE and the Rays Radio Network. Tonight's game can be also seen on on Sun Sports. The Rays host Cleveland for four starting tomorrow night, leading into the All-Star break. After this home stand and the All-Star Break, the Rays head out for nine games, starting with a huge three-game set at the Yankees beginning on Friday, July 17th. Tampa Bay will also play three at Baltimore and three at Cleveland, before returning home on Monday, July 26th for their longest home stand of the season, 11 games, with the first of a four-game set against Detroit, to be followed by three against the Yankees and four against Minnesota.

Falmouth Youth Hockey Selected as Grow the Game Award Recipient

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- The Falmouth Youth Hockey League of Falmouth, Mass., was chosen as the second annual winner of the USA Hockey Grow the Game Award, presented by Total Hockey. The award recognizes efforts to spread the game of hockey through various programs and initiatives.

The Falmouth Youth Hockey League created an after-school program in four area elementary schools that ran twice per week during a six-week period last spring and will run again this fall. Children were bused to the Falmouth Ice Arena, where they were provided with equipment and snacks. On-ice volunteers created a fun environment while participants learned skating techniques and hockey skills on a cross-ice playing surface. FYHL's objective was to feed kids into its youth hockey programs offered during the summer months, including Summer Shootout, Hockey 101, Learn to Skate and Power Skating.

In April, Total Hockey and USA Hockey challenged youth hockey associations nationwide to tell their stories of growing the game at a local level. Entries came from across the nation, describing endeavors about unique and creative ways to increase interest in hockey among America’s youth. Entries were judged on four criteria: creativity, media/marketing potential, transferability to other local programs interested in growing the game and the overall impact the program had on the local youth association. As the winning entry, FYHL received a $2,500 Total Hockey gift card to help further support its efforts to grow the game.

USA Hockey will begin accepting applications for the 2011 Grow the Game Award, presented by Total Hockey, in the spring of 2011. E-mail growthegame@usahockey.org for more information.

As the exclusive ice hockey equipment retailer of USA Hockey, Total Hockey continues to help grow the game by encouraging hockey in the community and creating awareness of the sport.
