This just in....

Edwin Jackson of the Arizona Diamondsbacks pitched a no-hitter tonight, beating the Tampa Bay Rays 1-0, in front of 18,918 at Tropicana Field.

Jackson wasn't exactly letter perfect in tossing his no-no, throwing just 79 of 149 pitches for strikes, walking 8(including walking the bases full in the third) and hitting one, while striking out 5 in facing 36 hitters. Jackson, now 5-6 on the year, got all the help he needed in the second inning, when Adam Larouche lined a home run into the right field seats. Jackson, in his eighth season in the big leagues, was 19-26 in three seasons with the Rays('06 through '08) and has pitched for a total of 5 teams in his career.

The Diamondbacks, now 29-45 this year, had 7 hits and committed one error. Jeff Niemann had a solid outing for Tampa Bay, allowing just the one run on six hits, with 8 strike outs and 2 walks. He's now 8-2 this year.

The Rays, who have been no-hit twice this season and three times in the past season and-a-half(Two of them perfect games), are now 43-30, 3-7 in their last 10 and are third in the A.L. East, 1/2 game behind Boston and 2 1/2 games behind the Yankees, pending the outcome of those two games yet to be completed tonight, the Yankees at the Dodgers and Boston at San Francisco. Tampa Bay plays game two of their three-game series with Arizona Saturday afternoon at 4:05pm EDT, with coverage on 620AM WDAE, the Rays Radio Network and Sun Sports. After this homestand, the Rays head out for a six-game road swing starting this coming Tuesday, with three games at Boston and four at Minnesota.
