The Tampa Bay Rays scored twice in the top of the first yesterday, but things went south quickly, in a 7-4 loss to the Florida Marlins in front of 17,310 in Miami.

The Rays jumped on top in their first at-bats, as Carl Crawford and Carlos Pena scored on a two-out double by Ben Zobrist, but Florida struck for five runs in the bottom of the first, with the key blow being a grand slam home run by Mike Stanton. The Marlins scored twice in the second on RBI singles by Hanley Ramirez and Dan Uggla. The Rays got one back in the fourth, as an error by Ramirez allowed Sean Rodriguez to score. Hank Blalock scored on B.J. Upton's seventh inning single, but that's as close as Tampa Bay would get in the 7-4 loss.

Matt Garza had his worst start ever for the Rays, giving up 7 earned runs in an inning and a third, dropping to 7-5. Nate Robertson was solid for Florida, fanning 6 and allowing 3 runs, 2 earned on the way to squaring his record at 5-5.

The Tampa Bay Rays, losers of 6 of their last 8, are 41-26 and still tied for first with the Yankees (who have lost 3 straight) in the A. L. East, meet the Florida Marlins this evening, in the second of a three-game set. First pitch tonight is scheduled for 7:10pm EDT on 620AM WDAE, the Rays Radio Network and Sun Sports. The Rays play the Marlins again tomorrow at 1:10pm EDT, then come home for six games, with three against San Diego and three against Arizona, starting next Tuesday.

Apparently, today is National Martini Day! Well, sort of. It's debated exactly what day this momentous occasion is actually supposed to occur, but since it's Friday I'm going to talk about it today. And like James Bond, many people I like theirs shaken, not stirred.

Of course, there are many variations on the traditional martini, as fruity martinis have become particularly popular. Some martinis don't even have gin or dry vermouth, so I don't know how that constitutes the martini name. But, you've always got to have custom bar accessories by your side so you can serve your guests. Cheers!
