Brett Cecil allowed just 1 run on 3 hits over 6 1/3 innings last night, to help the Toronto Blue Jays to a 3-2 win over the Tampa Bay Rays, before a crowd of 13,675 at Tropicana Field.

Toronto took the lead in the second, as Alex Gonzalez drilled a two-out homer into the left field seats. The Rays would tie the game in their half of the second, as Carlos Pena hit his 13th homer of the season over the center field wall. The blast was Pena's 129th homer with Tampa Bay, the most in franchise history.

The Jays took charge with a single run in the third, as Adam Lind singled home John Buck to give the visitors a 2-1 lead. The advantage grew to 3-1 in the eighth, as Gonzalez brought home Dewayne Wise with a sacrifice fly. The Rays got one back on a lead off homer in the bottom of the ninth by Sean Rodriguez, but the rally ended there and Toronto held on for the 3-2 win.

Cecil's strong effort, 2 k's, 1 earned run on 3 hits over 6 1/3 innings gave him the win, improving his record to 7-2. Kevin Gregg, despite allowing the ninth inning homer by Rodriguez, notched his 15th save of the season. Wade Davis fanned 7 and allowed 3 runs on 7 hits over 7 innings to take the hard luck loss. He's now 5-6.

The Tampa Bay Rays, with a record of 39-21 and 2 games ahead of the Yankees in the A.L. East, continue their home stand tonight, with the first of three games with the Florida Marlins. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10pm EDT tonight on 620AM WDAE, the Rays Radio Network and Sun Sports. The Rays games with the Marlins start at 7:10pm EDT Saturday and Sunday at 1:40pm EDT. Tampa Bay hits the road on Tuesday for six games, with three at Atlanta and three against the Marlins.
