Gerhart then dove in at the left pylon for the 2-point conversion, slicing the Beavers lead to 38-22, with 9:12 left in regulation time. After exchanging possessions, Oregon State once again called on punter Johnny Hekker, to pin Stanford deep. The Cardinal fumbled the punt again, this time recovering at their own 1, with only 2:37 still on the clock. Stanford would drive the length of the field with no time outs, but did put the ball in the endzone, with Gerhart scoring on a 2-yard run. The 2-point conversion attempt was knocked away with 25 seconds left, the Beavers recovered the ensuing onside kick and ran out the clock, winning the game 38-28.
