Sheri Schoenborn passes away

Sheri Schoenborn passed away from cancer this morning at 9:30 PST. She was a good wife, mother and friend and will be missed greatly. Please pray for her husband Dan, sons Marc and Ryan and her extended family during this very difficult time.

I considered her a good fiend. I remember how excited she was one day, many years ago, when, sitting on the front porch of her parents' home, she showed me her engagement ring. I remember how much she enjoyed sports, the great spaghetti she made, singing solos at church and how she loved her family and the Lord.

So long Sheri. You are one of the good ones. And don't worry, you'll have a lot of people looking after your family for you.

God's blessings on you too Dan. You know where to find me, if you ever need me.

We knew Dan and Sheri as young people at the Gladstone Nazarene Church. We had heard of Sheri's cancer, and had prayed for her. We are sorry for Dan and their sons Mark and Ryan for this very difficult loss. Our prayers are with you now. Our prayers are also with Mary and Scott, Sheri's mother and brother, and with Walt and Caroline Schoenborn, all great people.

I'm so grateful that I knew Sheri. My Grandma would take me to church with her with my 3 sisters every now and again. Sheri was always so nice to me when I was young and welcomed me everytime we came. Now that I'm growup and have a family of my own, whenever we went to church - which wasn't consistent - Sheri, Dan and their parents always welcomed me and my girls with open arms. Not once do I remember her not look my way and and give me a big hug, even after getting cancer. I would tell her she was beautiful with her pretty hats she wore and she'd just smile and saw "oh thank you". She played First base in softball and could really hit the ball! I loved playing Softball with her for the few years I did. I remember when Mark and Ryan were young and I babysat them a couple of times; she also needed someone to clean her home every other week during one of my high school summers. So I got $16.00 to clean her house for 3 hours. There are so many memories, I couldn't even begin to list them all. And I wasn't even around all that much! Imagine the people that were around her all the time! Well Sheri, one more thing. I wanted to come by and see you when I heard you only had a couple more days to live. I thought, I better not because you'd want your time with the family. At church the next day, I heard how lots of young people came to pay their respects. At first, I was mad at myself for not coming to see you anyway, but now I realize that I don't want to say "Good-bye". I'll see you soon enough. You're on vacation and 100% healthy and your with Him. Praise God for that. It is sad that you're not hear to see your smile, and welcoming arms; but I sure won't forget you. I love you and I'll see you soon. Your family and friends are really lucky to have you in their memories.

Wow, I don't know what prompted me to google Sheri's name. I never have, and haven't seen her since junior high. Now I do and learn that she's passed away. I see that she was married and had kids ... Once upon a time Sheri was the first girl I ever asked out on a date. It was junior high and Craig Kriegbaum and I asked out Sheri and Lisa (I don't remember her last name) out on a double date. I was so nervous. Sheri was simply the prettiest, sweetest girl in school. And man could she hit a ball! Well, so a first date ... You can imagine the courage I had to screw up to ask her out. To my amazement she said yes. My dad drove the four of us down to the Milwakie movie theater. He kept making small talk ("So, do you like cake?"), I was so embarrassed. Well, fourteen, fifteen--whatever. It's sobering and saddening to hear that she's passed away. The first person I know from that circle of friends. But knowing what I know of Sheri, she's in a much better place with the Lord now.
