Beavers go bowling today

The Oregon State Beavers, minus the Rodgers brothers, both out with shoulder injuries, take on the Pitt Panthers today in the 75th edition of the Brut Sun Bowl, played in El Paso, Texas.

The Beavers enter today's game with a 2008 record of 8-4, and a Pac-10 Conference record of 7-2. The Pitt Panthers are 9-3 overall, 5-2 in the Big East Conference. Pittsburgh has won the only meeting between the two schools, a 38-13 win in the Insight Bowl at Phoenix in 2002.

The Beavers are led by Quarterback Lyle Moevao, who has passed for 2,341 yards and 19 touchdowns this season. LeSean McCoy leads Pittsburgh with 284 carries for 1,403 yards, while Quarterback Bill Stull has passed for 2,304 yards and 9 touchdowns.

After going 28 consecutive years without a winning season, Oregon State is playing in their 8th bowl game in the past 10 years. Since returning as Head Coach of the Beavers, Mike Riley has won four straight bowl games. Riley recently signed a contract extension as Beavers Coach, keeping him in Orange and Black through 2015.

The game can be heard around the Beavers Sports Network and flagship station http://www.kpam.com. CBS has the telecast of today's game, beginning at 1:00p.m. CST.
